Allloggi Barbaria is a great value for an expensive city such as Venice. It was only a 10 minute walk away from St Marks Square (can be a bit confusing to get there as the streets are so maze like-the staff supply you with a good map). I thought I would want to be closer, but after spending time in...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights, and found the accomodations to be well worth the money. It is in a quiet neighborhood, but within reasonable walking distance to San Marco. The room was bright and clean, with a large bed, clean bathroom, cable TV, and a desk with chair. Fausto and Giorgio, the owners, were very friendly...

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The room was bright, spacious and very clean. The bathroom, also very clean had a great shower and clean towels were supplied daily. There was a mini bar in the room which was stocked up with water, minerals and some alcoholic drinks. Breakfast was small but what you'd expect. The staff were...

We stayed for two nights at this simple, welcoming and clean hotel in Venice's Castello neighborhood. It's easy to reach from the station with your bags, as the vaporetto stops at Ospedale, a short walk away. The owners were friendly, recommended an inexpensive but delicious restaurant, and let us leave our bags for a while after we checked out the...

Our welcome at the hotel was friendly, the rooms spacious and very clean, and with all that you need for a city break. The bathroom was modern and bright with clean towels daily, and the breakfast was simple yet more than adequate. The location of Alloggi Barbaria is very central yet away from the busy streets around the key sights...

Alloggi Barbaria is truly heaven sent. Located just away from the tourists focal points but a stone's throw from the main attractions, this B&B is inviting and makes the perfect base for your Venice holiday.. The room itself was spotless and generous with space, and the aircon was god-sent in the warm nights we were there. Giorgio was so helpful...

Dollar for dollar, a great property in a great location of Venice. Offers everything you need - clean, great location, QUIET, convenient, and a great staff. We will stay there again next year, without a doubt! After reading about this property in Rick Steve's 2007 edition for Italy, we booked directly vis-a-vis the internet and fax confirmation. Our three rooms...

This B&B is spacious for Euopean standards. The rooms were quiet, basic furniture, comfortable, very clean and safe. The showers were larger enough to move around in. The owners, Giorgio and Fausto, were very accomodating and personable. Our group rated them the best staff of all the places we stayed in Italy. You get a big bang for your buck...

We stayed at the Alloggi Barbaria this past week, and found it to be just delightful. Although the overall place is small (just six rooms, I think)... the rooms themselves are immaculate and well furnished with comfy beds, nice modern bathrooms, a/c, fridge, and satellite TV (although if you spend much time watching TV in Venice, you're doing something wrong)....

Allogio Barbaria was the best accomodation we had during our 10 days in Italy. Fausto & Giorgio who operate this Inn are as friendly as family and went out of their way helping us in advance with restaurant reservations and activitiy suggestions. The rooms are emaculate with comfortable beds, large showers, great AC and the low priced, well stocked mini...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
