This hotel was delightful when we finally found it. Cosy, clean and the staff were welcoming. The non descript entrance is tucked away in a small side alley and it is a total surprise when you enter this establishment. The cold breakfast was accompanied by fresh crisp croissants and delicious hot coffee. Within a minutes walk from Ca Formosa you...

We stayed here for 3 nights and found it clean and comfortable, the breakfast was very tasty and filling. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There are lots of stairs to climb so if this is an issue for you don't stay here but it didn't bother us.

We chose this hotel based on location and price... It's nicely decorated and in a nice part of town with plenty of hustle and bustle but enough quiet to get some sleep a night. Location - Great location, 10 minutes to Rialto, 10 minutes to San Marco, 10 minutes walking from Ospedale from the Alilaguna boat from the airport. However...

Excelent place to stay in Venice. Rooms are lovely, clean and the staff is great and helpful. Breakfast yumm. Location - could not be better. It takes about 5 minutes by foot to San Marco and Ponte Rialto, and at the same time it's very quiet. Grazie e arrivederci :))

We stayed in the hotel for six nights. Getting up the stairs was an effort, but it was good exercise. Our room was clean and shabby chic. The furniture in the room was old but it had a certain charm. The room was big but there was no view. The rooms and bathroom were spotless and the friendliness of the...

The architecture is amazing like any other part of Venice however the rooms are awful. If climbing a million stairs with your suitcases turns you off then certainly don't stay here. Getting to the place is also quite annoying as its a few rides on transport then a long walk down a dark dingy lane. Venice island is basically going...

Simply ignore the scaring comments of other too sensitive tourists and just enjoy the old but charming, and at the end funny, Venetian flavour of this hotel, next to a nice wide square in town which is Campo Santa Maria Formosa, with the church of the same name. Very good value for 1 night at just a few minutes walk...

The worst hotel, in the most inaccessible location, with no staff at reception. The hotel rooms are on the highest floor of the building that is impossible to get to while carrying your luggage. The room was dirty and the bathroom smelled the same as a pig sty. I would not advise this hotel to anyone, not even who travels on...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
