Stayed at the end of February 2008. Location was fantastic, only about 3min walk from St.Mark's Square. Hotel staff very friendly and efficient. Room large as was bathroom and very clean. Stayed on bed and breakfast with a typical buffet style breakfast which was fine. Brandy and coffee in the bar before bedtime was a treat in lovely surroundings. We...

My husband and I stayed at the Dona Palace for three nights in late April/early May. We had just come from Amsterdam and Prague, where we stayed at two lovely hotels. Dona Palace was, to say the least, tremendously disappointing for the ranking it has been given and for the money that we paid for a junior suite. While the room...

Good points: This hotel is in a great location, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The whole hotel is very well kept, very clean. Our room was on the 5th floor, so very quiet and quite spacious. Top tip: make sure you know where it is, stand in front of the Basilica in St Marks square, go down the...

The air conditioning ca be turned on only by May 15th by law but the heating/conditioning system can be individually controlled. A phone call at the reception would have solved surely the misunderstanding. The Bar service is daily available from 4.00 pm till midnight with staff always at disposal. Water taxi prices are established by the local taxi company and...

Stayed off-season at a discounted rate. Had no problems with the hotel at all. Room was perfect and surprisingly big for cramped Venice. WiFi internet was free (you have to get a password at the front desk), and the breakfast buffet excellent. My only interaction with the staff was at check-in/out, and they were very friendly and efficient. Location was...

Venice is a unique city in all its aspects. Even in streets...so a map is a good way to have the idea on the Hotel location. We always suggest when you are in the centre to call the Reception. Our staff will be pleased to give you more detail directions and guide you through the alleys. Part of the same...

My husband and I, together with a friend, have just returned from the Dona' Palace and had a memorable 3 night stay there during Carnival. I had done a lot of searching, but previous comments and a look at their website helped me decide in favour of this beautiful hotel. The location must be one of the best in all...

We stayed at the hotel Dona Palace for 3 nights. It was wonderful. Easy access to all of Venice, very helpful staff, and a nice breakfast buffet. The rooms were great, with nice beds and a TV. Our room did not have a view though. However, with it's great location in Venice, we were able to have plenty of fun...

We are a family of 6, youngest is 15, and we stayed at the Dona Palace for four nights over New Years Eve. Overall, the hotel was adequate, but not great value for the money. We reserved two suites. The suites were large enough and each had a separate sitting area with a pull-out couch that served as a second...

What a fantastic location!! It makes so much difference being really close to absolutely everything. The hotel is a little tricky to find, down a back street off the North Eastern corner of St Marks square. I recommend printing off the Expedia directions to the hotel before trying to find it. The (standard) room was really clean with good decor,...

We booked this hotel through a tour, along with plane, train, and transfer reservations for Rome, Florence, and Venice. We were very pleased with the location, and feel we got an excellent room for our money. We didn't ask for an upgrade even though our elegant room faced the outer wall of another building over a narrow walkway. There were...

My husband and I stayed in the Dona Palace for the last 2 nights of our honeymoon - and were delighted with our choice. We booked a juniour suite which was large and spacious with very high ceilings, and decorated in typical venitian style. Our room was on the corner of the building, with a view of the bridge of...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

A classy, elegant, luxury boutique hotel, the Donà Palace is a four star property overlooking the Rio at the Doge's Palace with its famous Bridge of Sighs, just a few steps from Europe's largest drawing room, Saint Mark's Square. The Hotel Donà Palace's exclusive setting in the historic heart of Venice is favoured for its priviledged position.
