Stayed for 5 nights from 22 September (our second time at this hotel). We were given a lovely comfortable room on the first floor (room 32). This was good as there is no lift and my wife has difficulty with balance due to MS and was recovering from a recently sprained ankle. Although the room faced the Piazza and was...

The hotel itself is quite old and outdated. We only stayed one night, but the room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was serviceable. The staff was extremely helpful, the location was good, and the price was right.

This hotel is very well positioned in central Venice, being about a 20 min walk from both San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. It is in a really beautiful square with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. There is a water taxi stop about 100m away but the water taxis are expensive at around 100 Euros! Breakfast was excellent and...

Friendly little hotel in a great, central location. Excellent, helpful staff that spoke English. First time conversation they provided a map and told us which areas to avoid over inflated prices for food, drink etc. They also gave good info on best vaparettos, travel to other islands etc. Excellent choices in the breakfast room-all continental,no cooked except for boiled eggs but...

Hotel couldn't have been in a better location, just about 8 mins walk from St Mark's Square and 10 mins from Rialto Bridge. Staff were very helpful, making suggestions and providing maps. Breakfast was included and although a cold buffet, had lots of choice and was good quality food. Breakfast staff were very efficient at clearing tables so even when...

The hotel is in a great location but is hard to access from the airport if you don't know where you are going. We were told to get of the water taxi at Osperdale and walk up past the hospital. However this involved go up and down a number of steps, not to good lugging full suitcases. It was be...

I have just returned from this lovely hotel with my partner; we spent 4 nights there. We would thoroughly recommend it for anyone looking for a traditional place to stay in this wonderful city. The Hotel Scandinavia is centrally placed for all the main attractions yet near enough to wander through quieter parts of the city to find cheaper places...

Had a great stay at this hotel. Had a room at the front with a balcony overlooking the square. Great location and although a little tricky to find, everything is in Venice when you first get there! Room is smallish and modestly decorated but exceptionally clean. Breakfast included and there was a good selection for a pleasant start to the...

We stayed in this hotel on Venice Island. Cobble stones, arched bridges, gondolas and beautiful mains squares. So much history, very old building in a very central.position. No cars on the island,so be prepared to walk and get lost in Venice.

Pros: Venice is hard to navigate because of the winding roads but this hotel is walkable to everything we wanted to do and see in Venice. They gave us great directions to everything and the restaurants they directed us to were the best meals we had in all of Europe. The little breakfast was a nice touch. Cons: One issue...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
