The hotel is in a great location but is hard to access from the airport if you don't know where you are going. We were told to get of the water taxi at Osperdale and walk up past the hospital. However this involved go up and down a number of steps, not to good lugging full suitcases. It was be...

I have just returned from this lovely hotel with my partner; we spent 4 nights there. We would thoroughly recommend it for anyone looking for a traditional place to stay in this wonderful city. The Hotel Scandinavia is centrally placed for all the main attractions yet near enough to wander through quieter parts of the city to find cheaper places...

Had a great stay at this hotel. Had a room at the front with a balcony overlooking the square. Great location and although a little tricky to find, everything is in Venice when you first get there! Room is smallish and modestly decorated but exceptionally clean. Breakfast included and there was a good selection for a pleasant start to the...

We stayed in this hotel on Venice Island. Cobble stones, arched bridges, gondolas and beautiful mains squares. So much history, very old building in a very central.position. No cars on the island,so be prepared to walk and get lost in Venice.

Pros: Venice is hard to navigate because of the winding roads but this hotel is walkable to everything we wanted to do and see in Venice. They gave us great directions to everything and the restaurants they directed us to were the best meals we had in all of Europe. The little breakfast was a nice touch. Cons: One issue...

Great service, period style decor and freshly made croissants! This was a great hotel to stay if you want to be in the heart of Venice. I found the furniture antique and some of the paintings quite humorous with quirky alterations of some of the Renaissance paintings. The staff were very friendly and made efforts to ensure we were comfortable....

There is no elevator so it would be difficult for people with a lot of luggage. The rooms in the back open to a valley with mechanical units so essentially there is no light coming through the window. We stayed for one night and it was okay for that, but I would not recommend for a long stay. The included...

Sleeping in a 700 year old hotel gets you in the spirit of Venice. Get ready to use stairs, but luckily you don't need to lug your baggage up them as porters look after this for you. Centrally located between Piazza San Marco, Ponte Rialto and everywhere else, this was a wonderful location to immerse yourself in Venice and enjoy...

We had a room for 4 which was small but fine. The 2 childrens' bed were bog enough for them and the adults beds were comfy. Plus Great location, good breakfast, helpful and friendly staff. Nice view over square if you have a room at the front. Clean. AC. Quiet location although very central. Negatives Rooms a bit basic -...

This hotel is most conveniently located, close to St. Mark's and Rialto, and situated in a quiet square. First, it is an old hotel and old furnishings but everything is extremely clean. Secondly, there is no lifts/elevator, but porter to help with bags. The front desk was very polite, accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was not fancy, but again more...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
