The hotel was easily located off a large square. There are no lifts at the hotel to reach the floors but the staff are very helpful and will carry bags. Rooms are compact but have ensuites and a fridge. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. Cleaning was thorough and the decor and furnishings were lovely. Breakfast was...

What a beautiful treat! The hotel was perfect and I was so happy to spend my 21st here! It made it even more special. The hotel was lovely. And the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was to die for, it was on the 3rd floor and the views with it was incredible! Perfect size bathroom and a...

The place is okay - for a 3* hotel in the very centre of Venice it delivers. Breakfast is not the best, but has variety (although not enough types of cereal!) and some of the decor is a bit too old-fashioned (the bathroom). However, the staff are great - very helpful and always smiling. The location is great - 5...

The rooms were a bit spartan but warm to sleep in. Even though our room faced the square it was quiet in the evenings. Two electrical outlets did not seem to work. Good selections of cold cuts for breakfast but the toast bread was a bit cold and stale. The nutella made the bread edible. Not so fond off cold...

When you're tired, climbing 70 steep stairs (8 steep, long flights) to a 4th floor room totally sucks! Then, you get to fall asleep on a bed that is equivalent to sleeping on a box springs instead of a mattress. Did I forget that the mattress was plastic covered so you woke up sweating and had to listen to plastic...

Very good location, confortable and clean room & bathroom, good breakfast, friendly staff. Hotel is five minutes walk distance from Rialto bridge, approx 10 minutes from San Marco & Fundamenta Nove (starting point to the islands of Murano, Burano, etc).

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
