I stayed 3 nights at Palazzo Schiavoni with my partner and 2 children (aged 9 and 13) as part of a 3 week trip around Italy. The hotel itself is a recently refurbished palace and both apartments and hotel rooms are available. We stayed in a spacious 2 bedroom apartment which had a modern kitchen and bathroom and was beautifully...

The four of us (one couple, 2 teenages) stayed in room 106 - a two bedroom apartment - for four days in January 09 - and what an experience! This accommodation was the best we stayed in during our 5 weeks away. Firstly the location was perfect for us - a little away from the noise and clammer of people,...

It has taken a little while to write this review, however, the good memories of Palazzo Schiavoni have not faded since our stay in September. Nicola and other staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed three nights in a two bedroom apartment overlooking the canel, and another two nights in a "studio" suite, which gave us a separate bedroom...

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 8 nights and found it a lovely experience. The staff is kind and attentive and is very knowledgeable of Venice and the environs. We had previously stayed at the Gritti Palace when last in Venice and found the Palazzo Schiavoni much friendlier and the staff far more accomodating. Furthermore, the...

The room was ready with the A/C on when we arrived (which was a savoir because it was really hot and humid). They gave us free wi-fi and the room was big (we got a one bedroom apt). The breakfast was good and the location was a little hard to find but I liked that it was close to San...

As the other reviews have said, this is a great place to stay. Our room was large, well presented, very stylish, clean and neat, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The small number of rooms gave the place an intimate feel, and it was within a few minutes walking distance of St. Mark's Square. Why I am writing...

Our stay was only for 1 night but we wish to have stayed longer. We were pleasantly surprised about the spaciousness and cleanliness of our suite. The frescoes on the ceiling were amazing and unique. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again without any reservations.

We arrived soaking wet on a miserable day in the pouring rain. We received a really warm welcome and were shown immediately to our warm comfortable room - "Check in later when you are dry!" Although this is a small and simple hotel we could not have asked for a better one. It is located in a quiet area though...

The location of the Palazzo Schiavoni is excellent -- near San Marco's but far enough to be away from the crowds and be in a very nice Venetian neghborhood with excellent restauraunts and shops. Our room was fairly small but it opened to a rooftop patio that made you forget about the room's size. Staff was very helpful and helped...

For anyone considering Venice, and this hotel in particular, you cannot go wrong if you do choose it. As it was for us, it is a little difficult to try to select a location without having visited the city first; however, do note that Venice is a very small city and everything is within a few blocks' walk. My initial...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
