We stayed at the Foscari Palace last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were delighted with our choice of hotel and that we had booked a canal facing room - there is something magical about the sights and sounds from the balcony. We found the staff to be extremely courteous and efficient, the hotel is clean, fresh and very...

The Foscari Palace is a charming hotel at a superb location for a couple on honeymoon, like we were. The friendly receptionist, Divna, had a surprise for us: we got our room upgraded to a room with a direct view on the Grand Canal. This view exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed to open our (two) windows to watch the early...

We stayed at the Foscari April 8-12 and couldn't have been more pleased--our only disappointmenst were not reserving early enough to get two rooms facing the Grand Canal and the fact that one room was warmer than we would have liked. Our deluxe double room on the Canal was almost palatial and our superior deluxe, facing the S. Sofia plaza...

We stayed at the Foscari Palace over spring break and it was so wonderful. The room is beautifully decorated, fresh fruit upon arrival in room, many ammenities, and the largest bathroom we saw throughout Italy. The shower is incredible. The breakfast was nice. Could improve on the hot items (eggs runny, and bacon/sausage a little fatty, etc.) But that's being...

Very pleasant hotel: stayed in one of the top-range rooms looking on to the Grand Canal...could you beat that in Venice? Nicely furnished room, helpful staff, great bathroom: hardly to be taken for granted in Venice, where hotels can be none too cheap and awful. Excellent location for everything, far enough off the horrors of the worst of the tourist...

Stayed at the Foscari Palace with my husband for three nights at the end of March. We booked a superior room which was a good size with a large sofa. The bathroom was large with a jacussi style bath and shower. There was an extensive choice of hot and cold food at breakfast, and the bacon was well enough done...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on the 10th and 11th March 06. We were very impressed with the hotel and especially the staff. They helped us with everything from waterbus time tables to restaurants and what was on at the opera during our stay. The hotel is approx 10-15 mins walk to St Marks Square or a...

I took my wife to Venice as a 50th birthday treat & my decision to book the Foscari was based on the previous reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not dissappointed, the hotel is truly four star class in a fabulous location. Standards of cleanliness were extremely high & the professionalism & helpfulness of the staff is to be commended. My husband and I stayed at the Foscari Palace in February this year. The hotel is excellent. Lovely bedroom - quite big with beautiful bathroom. The breakfast is first-class with everything you could wish for. The mini-bar and drinks in the bar are very reasonably priced. Would definitely stay there again.

My family and I stayed at the Foscari Palace for 2 nights on March 26th and 27th, 2006. It was a great experience. We had two rooms and one was upgraded to a full suite. The staff was very helpful and were good at giving some basic advice as to taxis and dining. The rooms were very nice and comfortable....

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
