We were very happy that we could check in at 9 a.m. as we just got off a train from Vienna. Our grand suite was huge. Everything about the hotel was great except we had a medium-sized ant problem in our room. We came back to our room around 7 p.m. after exploring all day to find ants crawling out...

The hotel is located right on the canal and conveniently located near a water bus stop. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I found the bed a bit hard but seems that is the case for Italy as all of our hotel, beds were firm.

We had a wonderful stay at the Foscari Palace from 31 March to 3 April 2017. The hotel is very pretty and the room was spacious with a fabulous view of the Grand Canal. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast had lots of selections including some yummy cakes.

Well located in a quiet square near the Ca D'Oro vaporetto stop on the route between San Marco and the bus/rail terminals. The room smallish but clean and functional: dominated by a large, comfortable bed. No tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom fittings required attention: leaking plugs, inoperative pop up wastes: minor problems. In house dinner on Saturday night excellent value however...

We found the hotel very good. The location, overlooking The Grand Canal and close to a vaporetto (waterbus) stop, was excellent and put virtually all the sights within walking distance. Continental btreakfasts were generous, with a 3 hour availability. Staff were quiet, efficient and helpful A water taxi ride in to the hotel jetty from Marco Polo Airport was bumpy...

I got the last remaining room but it was amazing! Absolutely huge, with two balconies into the Grand Canal! Fantastic! It's close to a Caporetto stop, and 15 mins walk to San Marco or the train station, and even less to Rialto bridge. What more could you ask?

Just got back from our stay at Foscari Palace and was so disappointed by the service which we received from 2 members of staff in particular. Me and my partner had asked when the bar was open and was looked at blankly. We then asked if we could bring our own drink as the bar was closed and they said...

Great central location on the Grand Canal; helpful staff; large room and enormous bed; relatively quiet location as well despite the fact we were there over Carnival. Pillow too thin; breakfast good; wine not so good. Use it as a B&B and go to local restaurants for dinner.

Had 4 nights at the Foscari Palace hotel just at the end of the carnival. Great location. 2 minute walk from vaporetta stop and 2 yards from the gondola across to the fish / fruit market. Very nice room with huge room and canal views. Very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. 4th time in Venice and first time at the...

More than I expected. Fabulous large room with one of the best views in Venice, jacuzzi tube, gorgeous patio on the top of building over looking the canal and grand breakfast. Do not scrimp on paying for the canal view room. Watching the workings of the canal - gondoliers, daily market, vaporettos, garbage barges, delivery boats, sunsets - are all...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

“If you can run to the cost try and book the Junior Suite at the front of the hotel overlooking the canal. You have two balconies and a really comfortable, good sized room. My advice is to avoid the Grand Suite - it is somewhat souless, tired and does not have the same great view as the room below it.”

“We were in room 108 and we had more of a street view than canal view as advertised. We only saw a small portion of the canal from our room. However, go up to the rooftop terrace for the best views of the canal!”

“If you are traveling by train, it is worthwhile to get a Vaporetto (water taxi) pass. You can take the Vaporetto from the train station to the stop at Ca d'Or which is just around the corner from the hotel. The Vaporetto is much easier way to get to the hotel instead of carrying suitcase on the cobblestones and up/down bridges. ”
