Spent a couple of nights here recently for a romantic weekend. Had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is well located next to the grand canal and a stone's throw from the water taxi stop. It has been recently refurbished but still retains its historic character. The staff are very helpful. My only gripe would be that the breakfast wasn't...

The location of this place was its best feature. Even though it was far from a lot of the major attractions in Venice, it was next to a Vaporetto Bus Stop, which makes the public transportation a breeze for a lot less money. I still don't understand quite how the electronic tickets work for the All day Vaporetto Bus passes,...

On a Friday morning (Easter vacation weeks), it took 20 minutes to walk from train station to hotel. Only one bridge to hoist luggage up but best to pack light anyways. Clearly marked as it is right by the vaporetto stop. Very friendly staff for check-in. We had an early check-out and they were willing to work with us. Breakfast...

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel for 10th feb - 13th feb 2009. we got a superb deal - a double room for 3 nights for 150 euros, probably due to the fact that it was just before carnevale time in venice (i checked the prices for the following week and it was more than 100 euros more). to...

This hotel was immaculate and the staff were more than helpful plus had the added benefit of being just beside a vaporetto stop. I loved my stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone else. If I had one complaint it was that there were no English channels available on the television - not so much a problem as...

The hotel was very nice. The room was was spacious and oh so clean.. The elevator was a help with all the steps. The breakfast was excellent and I must mention the women who served us was the best. The front desk service was very good. The location near the water bus stop and within walking distance to the train...

This hotel has a great location, being close to the Venice train station as well as a water bus stop. The rooms were clean and quiet, with a nice view onto a quiet side canal. There were only two drawbacks: they charge you for wireless internet access, and the staff is not that friendly. Otherwise we had a good stay.

This hotel is a few steps from the Vaporetto Stop San Marcuola. It is very clean and nice - a good value. Breakfast was good. Room was fine. Some rooms were actually overlooking a quiet canal. The owner had re-done it recently and was keeping a close eye on things. Computer to use in lobby. Can walk to train station/Piazale...

First, if you are arriving by train to Venice, it's really easy to walk to Ca' San Marcuola (even with luggage). I wouldn't wait in the long lines to buy tickets for the ferry. It's only a 10 to 15 minute walk. When you exit the railway station, go left, past the ferry docks and lines of people purchasing tickets....

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
