We walked to the hostel from the train station it took 10/15 mins, the directions we were given on hostel world were clear and easy to follow. The hostel is located in a small square which has some nice restaurants and a some small shops. We arrived before check in and were allowed to leave our bags while we went...

Elias was so friendly, funny and informative. He welcomed us with chocolate and we had a long conversation. The location is so nice, right in a busy square and the room was clean and well laid out. Venice is an expensive place to stay but I think this represented good value.

My wife and I really enjoyed this hotel. Yes the floor sloped slightly but so does everything on Venice but the charm and tranquility were only surpassed by the humor of the owner / manager - such a nice guy. The back room was quiet and the facilities acceptable for the price and considering you are ON the island not...

Average for the price you pay. The room I stayed was quite good, but very compact. In my room the bunk didn't have a ladder so I needed to use something else to go up. One specific situation that occurred with me: they couldn't inform me what time is the reception opening, and when I said I would check out...

You mustn't expect any good deals in Venice during Carnevale. So I was positively surprised with this one. Though I'm not sure they would have given us a second set of sheets (how are you supposed to sleep with just one sheet and wool blanket?) if we didn't speak to them very politely in Italian. If I heard it right,...

We loved staying here because of the perfect location and private room! We stayed for two nights and the plaza that Antico Capon is in was lively and full of people! We were nervous for when we wanted to sleep but once we were in our room we couldn't hear a thing. We had our own private bathroom and keys...

The staff are young and friendly and willing to help you out with directions and recommendations. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The room was clean and all amenities worked well, although it was basic. I noticed that they had anti-bug plugins present in the room. The location is about 10 minutes walk from the train station, and I liked the...

Very good location, very good staff, simple and clean amenities, plus the wifi worked well. Very basic, but in a good way. The only 2 negatives I have is that there were no towels; you have to bring your own, and there was no AC, so the windows needed to be opened, and mosquitoes attack. =( The location is in...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

“Maybe ask for a room not facing the square- we were lucky ours was at the back and we slept well but the square can be a bit noisy at night.”

“We stayed in Room 3 with a shower and toilet, no drainage in the potty area so keep the shower door closed. close the curtains during the day to keep the sun out or it will be really hot. Ask the owner to fix the Fan (good luck on that)”

“Better to travel in group of 3-4 because then you get the back room which is hidden away from the noise of the Campo Santa Margherita. Gets pretty hot at night and the windows can't really be open.”
