Set in a busy piazza this welcoming restaurant provides good food and wine for a sensible price We opted for an aubergine pizza and a stunning plateful of spaghetti, garlic, chilli and Parmesan - all washed down with a half litre of House Chardonnay There is a nominal cover charge and the "bio" glass of water at one euro certainly...

Great location and very friendly and helpful local staff. They gave me good indications. The rooms are a bit tiny and the wifi does not reach them. It is ok to spend a night or two if you just need a bed in a central location.

This hotel was really really nice!! When I arrived I was welcomed by the adorable dog, Spot. The owner, Elia, was extremely nice and sociable. The bed was very comfortable and I got a good nights sleep. The bathroom facilities were also very clean! Before I booked a room here I was a bit skeptical because I had read a...

Stayed here twice in two years.. service was pretty much average both times. The owner is a funny guy. Wouldn't call this a super-clean place, but clean enough to spend a night or two. Location is perfect..

cheap considering the location but you get what you paid for, just rooms, no common areas, no bar, no restaurant, this is a place if you are looking for just a place to sleep and spend the whole day out in the city, the attention is also really basic, the man in charge answer what you ask and thats all......

We sat down as a small group of three to enjoy a litre of wine and a pizza to share under the sun. The staff took 20 minutes to take our order and then refused to serve us as they said they were 'too busy' to have us share a pizza, despite multiple empty tables. Perhaps they are unaware that...

We had a nice time in Venice and we spent 3 nights in the hotel. We had a room with a private bath and window on the square side. The bed was not comfortable, the pillows were dirty and also the room was not cleaned. The floor was dirty as well. After two days we wanted to have changed the...

I've travelled for years throughout Italy and this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. I was there during Carnevale and my room looked out on a lively square. That's the good part. The bad part? During my absence the owners allowed locals INTO MY ROOM to watch the festivities! The room was cold; the bathroom was a weird...

I traveled with two other college students, so we booked this because it was comparable to other hostels. About a week in advance I emailed the owner saying I had to cancel 1 of the 2 nights, but then quickly emailed him again explaining that I would like to keep my second night (There were a few last minute change...

We stayed in Venice 2 nights here. I went with my friend and who made the reservation for us together and we had to stay in different rooms the first night. The wifi didn't work in the room I stayed in and you had to go in the hall to access it. There was no air conditioning or air flow...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

“Maybe ask for a room not facing the square- we were lucky ours was at the back and we slept well but the square can be a bit noisy at night.”

“We stayed in Room 3 with a shower and toilet, no drainage in the potty area so keep the shower door closed. close the curtains during the day to keep the sun out or it will be really hot. Ask the owner to fix the Fan (good luck on that)”

“Better to travel in group of 3-4 because then you get the back room which is hidden away from the noise of the Campo Santa Margherita. Gets pretty hot at night and the windows can't really be open.”
