Went as a couple. Booked about 9 months in advance and paid full freight for what we believed was a superior room - wasn't cheap (I understand it was high season). Arrived and were shown to a fourth floor room. Believe this - had to step up and duck at the same time to get into the room (Venetians of... More

The hotel is really well located 500m east of St Marks Square with an entrance direct on to a canal that your water taxi from airport can drop you to - a very nice way to arrive. We booked a room at the back rather than over the canal so we could get decent sleep. We were very pleased with... More

Took the water taxi right to the hotel. A great experience in itself for first time visitors. Had a jr suite on the canal and it was fabulous. Rooms are European small.Very quiet tho. Beautiful bath room. Breakfast was great and the tables by the canal were a great place to start the day. Had arranged for a water taxi... More

This was the best hotel we stayed in during our 2 weeks in Italy. The staff were friendly throughout the hotel, and the room was excellent. Being a small, luxury hotel it has a lovely warm feel about it. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in our room, and breakfast was good. The hotel is close enough to the... More

Very nice small hotel, well located. Staff were friendly and helpful, both before and after we lost a bag. Room was very small, with no aircon, so open window meant a bit of noise. We overlooked the courtyard which was fine, though probably the canal would have been better. Also during the day there was some construction going on within... More

We stayed here on the recommendation of two friends who had stayed her a few years previously. We were not disappointed. The accommodation was excellent as was the location. The breakfast was lovely both in terms of food and setting. The courtyard was a quiet attractive place to return to after the busy narrow streets of Venice. Without doubt the... More

Great hotel with canal entrance, we got a canal view room (luck) with a small balcony which was great. Shortcut to grand canal about 5 minutes walk, long route to St Marks Square about 15 minutes. Enjoyed chatting with friendly bar staff over a spritz after a day of touristing.

What a fantastic place to stay, had a corner room which was enormous, looking out on the canal, perfection. Stayed four nights, wandered venice, went to a Vivaldi Concert, travelled in gondolas, fantastic. Great location, really helpful staff, absolutely loved it !!

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in August, it was not a very enjoyable stay. The only perk to the hotel is its location, you are close to St.Marks square. Other then that, the rooms are small, the bed was quite possibly the hardest mattress I've ever slept on and the shower was barley big enough to... More

Stayed for four days here and there are a number of real plus points .... (1) Great location on the Rio dei Greci - just a little away from San Marco but with plenty of restaurants nearby and a short walk to vaporetto stops etc. (2) Really helpful staff. Although we didn't need too much assistance, other folk that were... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
