This hotel has tiny rooms in four buildings We went straight to the hotel from water taxi from the airport. The room was very old and up 2 flights of stairs that were very steep. Our room was not air-conditioned and had heated towel rails warmed the whole room. It was OK for 2 nights.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Lux for nearly two weeks in December. I was given complemetary accommodations as part of an arts week and gladly stayed on for another 3 days at my expense. I appreciate that this place has mixed reviews, but I have stayed in many, many European hotels in this price range and...

Stayed at the Hotel Lux during a visit in June 2015. Very disappointed about what we got at that price. They attempt to sell themselves as some sort of classic cozy hotel but rather get away with cheap worn out decorations, rickety old "rowboats" for beds which were incredibly uncomfortable at best. On the plus side the hotel is smack...

Just spent 3 nights in this dive. The pictures on line are not what we got. My room was the original from the 1950's. No lift. Free b'fast Yogurt, coffee and roll. No smoke or fire alarms. Disgusting !

Very "curious" hotel, since the reception, rooms and breakfast location are in different places, all pretty close to each other. Excellent location, near the"pont of suspire" , walking distant to Piazza San Marco" Gondola rides etc etc.

Curtains hanging off wall. Rock hard bed. Stingy breakfast limited to 1 croissant per person. No lift. Limited space to securely store luggage. Overall VERY disappointed for €200 a night. I would never stay here again. Overpriced and very poor quality.

We stayed for 2 nights. No one could help us get our bags up stairs to even the check in desk which was one flight up; muchless the 2 more flights to our room. Another guest felt sorry for us and carried our bags to check in desk. We then had to wait several more hours for bags to be...

No one was there to bring up the luggage and no elevator. So we arrived at 2:00 the check in time but didn't get our luggage brought up until 5:45. No apologies, just excuses! On one of the TripAdvisor Emails the address was incomplete/incorrect so we walked for an hour with our luggage to find it, over bridges etc. Then...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
