Before booking a hotel in a new city I look for the location, price, reviews and the staff working at the hotel. The first 3 I can get before I book. The final (Staff) I learn about when I get there. This hotel excels in all 4 of my categories. The location is perfect with minutes from the Rialto Bridge... More

The location was perfect. A short walk to Piazza San Marco. The staff is incredible. They went above and beyond the call of duty to extend kindnesses and assistance to our family. Marco was particularly helpful. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the breakfast was phenomenal.

Our second stay here, and just as good as the first. The location is excellent, and rooms are very quiet, despite being so close to the Rialto-Saint Marks tourist route. Everything kept very clean. Good selection for breakfast and really helpful reception staff. At this time of year (November) we got a deal that was excellent value for money. The... More

Booked for us through our travel agent for pre and post cruise. Been to Venice a number of times and found this location to be the best yet. 4 mins from Rialto or St Marks Square. Breakfast was nice with lovely fresh fruit salad, usual continental meats, cheese, salad, pastries etc plus hot bacon and scrambled eggs. Very good coffee... More

Charming rooms and good location are the only good comments I'll give this hotel. Service is average, thin walls, breakfast was poor, hair in their supposed to be clean towels.. We had a cleaning lady barging in to the room uninvited because she saw a pillow that accidentally had fell on the floor. She took it up from the floor... More

Stayed for a city break for 4 nights with my partner. Really good value for money! Room very clean, staff were friendly and breakfast was lovely - lots of choice. Only complaint would be the pillows (bit flat and hard) otherwise would definitely recommend :)

After catching the water bus to Rialto Bridge stop we had some difficulty finding the hotel but after asking two people we soon found the sign indicating Hotel Canaletto. It It was tucked in around a side walkway off the main street of San Lio. After having found the hotel we had no trouble in finding it thereafter. In fact... More

The Hotel Canaletto is centrally located in the San Marco area of Venezia (Venice for us Yanks). The staff was very helpful and were multilingual. Our room was one of the very best we've ever occupied, with brocade curtains, stretched fabric "wallpaper", antique-style furniture, a Murano Glass chandelier, and a window on a canal. Maybe we got lucky with the... More

The window with twin balconies, shown on the opening page is number 133 and was ours for four nights. It is a loft style room. Lots of space but you need to climb a stairway to access the bed. Located about mid way between Rialto and San Marco Plaza, this hotel provided a good base for exploring Venice. If possible... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The hotel is situated in the heart of the romantic city of Venice, in a very quiet position just 200m from the beautiful St. Mark’s Square and the famous Rialto Bridge. It is the ideal starting point to set off through the alleys to discover the wonderful monuments and typical shops which hide all the ancient, fascinating mysteries of Venice. The hotel takes its name from the famous Venetian artist, Antonio Canal, who was known as Canaletto. The rooms where the artist used to live (1697-1768) have now become our elegant hotel rooms. A friendly, elegant, romantic and quiet atmosphere furnished in typical 18th century Venetian style, with stucco work, damask, hand lacquered and gilded furniture, Murano glass mirrors and lamps. All rooms are soundproofed and have private bathroom with shower or bath, air conditioning, telephone, Wi-Fi internet access, minibar, sat TV, hair dryer and safe. There are also our superior rooms with views of the canal or the typical square with the well-curb. The elegant public rooms (breakfast room, bar, TV room, internet point and Wi-Fi access) are all decorated with stucco work and the antique smoothed lime finish, and have some lovely reproduction of Canaletto’s works on the walls. ... more   less
