I stayed there in July of 2008, and was thankful for the air conditioning! The room was quiet, clean and spacious. One plus for me: the hotels' website was offering a discount to U.S. and Canadian citizens if you paid the rates in USD cash! Check the hotel's site to see if that deal is still valid. The location was...

After reading other reviews we decided to book this hotel as it was great value but still in an excellent location. The hotel did not disappoint - you are so close to everything here. The staff were helpful, the room was clean and a good size. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and they were constantly bringing out more...

This hotel is located a couple of hundred metres from St Marks Square near San Zaccharia water bus stop. This is a lovely little hotel with nice staff, in particular Miko at reception. He runs a two hour walking tour of Venice in his own time and is well worth taking if you are a first timer in Venice. Our...

We (2 couples) stayed here Sept. 5th for 1 night before our cruise. The location of the hotel can't be beat! By American standards we'd consider our room small but it was typical of many Italian hotels we'd stayed in in the past and we found it quite adequate. The room/bathroom was clean and I felt very comfortable there. We...

This hotel is everything we were looking for in venice! The location was excellant! right around the corner from St Marks Square. Getting to the hotel was a breeze even with our huge suitcases and over the bridges and all. The hotel staff were great and very helpful. Room was clean and tidy and great for the price we paid....

Location could not be beaten. Easy to get to from watertaxi from both the airport and the station. Room small but well appointed, breakfast good, staff helpful. Our son and his family also joined us and asked for, and were given, a room suitable for a baby. They were very happy with the result. Easy to get around, and the...

My first reaction to this place was great location. My inital experience with the front desk was not great but once that guy (who did not want to be there) was switched out it got better. As a quick plug go visit Bar Verde at the end of the road. They are open with great hours so when the rest...

I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights prior to a cruise. The hotel was easy to reach by public transportation. The hotel is near the Zaccaria motor-boat station. Even though the room was small, we had a view of the canal from the street. The shower was quite adequate. The buffet breakfast that is served daily downstairs was average....

For our first visit to Venice this place was perfect for a one night stay. Location for water taxi access from airport was excellent (make sure you alight at San Zaccaria); hotel is two minutes walk. Within 2 minutes of San Marco this place has got one of the best locations for the short visit tourist. Reception was friendly, rooms...

We arrived by train and taking the water bus to the hotel was extremely easy. The bus stop was only a minute away and there's no need to cross any bridges! The airport water bus is also very close, only 1 bridge to cross. I've heard stories of people carrying their bags up/down, bridge after bridge, I'm so glad we...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
