I chose this hotel for its amazing location and the great price. It is a little on the older side, but it is clean and the staff is friendly. The hotel even uses old fashioned keys! not key cards. I stayed her with my mom on my spring break (which was in february) and turns out it was one of...

Location, Location, Location. The Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino is near the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop & only 100 steps from Gondole Danieli (prominently shown in Depp's & Jolie's movie, "The Tourist". The Doge's Palace public entrance is 240 steps from the front door of the Hotel C&P, 404 steps to the Bell Tower/Campanile & 465 steps to St. Mark's Cathedral...

This Hotel is tucked away in a narrow street just to the right (as you get off the vaporetto) of St. Mark`s Square. It can be reached from the waterfront or via St. Mark`s Square. It is a small hotel not a large lavish `cost a packet` job but perfectly adequate and well placed. Quite a few people were there...

My husband and I spend 3 nights at the Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino, and we really enjoyed it. The location is amazing. Just steps from the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop (which you can take to and from the airport) and steps from St. Mark's, Doge's Palace, and a bunch of places to eat. The room was small, but most hotel...

Absolutely perfect location - it's a less than 2 minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The staff is friendly enough, and the rooms are neat, but that's where the positives end. My husband and I are from NYC, so we fully understand how expensive things are, but to pay $330 a night to stay in a room the size of...

Around the corner from the Bridge of Sighs, Doge Palace, and San Marco (St. Mark's Square) this is a perfect location for the first time tourist. It's also on a small but lively street, and close to restaurants including the best sandwich place, in the world, Birreria Forst right next door! Try the porcetta with special sauce. You won't regret...

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel and we really enjoyed it. The rooms were clean and nice and the bathroom was very nice. The breakfast was great and had exactly what we needed. The location is the big seller on this place it is literally steps from San Marc’s Square and the Doge’s Palace.. We never needed to...

Perfect location less than 5 minutes from St Marks square & the Grand Canal, but sound proof windows so no noise from the crowds.First impressions is it looks like its down a dark alley, but all the side streets look like that. Rooms are clean, and housekeeping is spot on. Breakfast was good, meat, cheese, rolls, jams, juice, fruit, cereal,...

Great location (less than 2 minutes from St. Marks Square. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Shower is typically small like most in europe. Valentina and her staff were quite helpful. Breakfast was usually ready by 7:15. Would definitely stay again and recommend it.

Hotel is in a fantastic location, just behind the Doges Palace and St Marks Square. Its a wonderful feeling when all around you are hot, tired day trippers and you can pop back to the hotel ,have a rest, take a shower and come out refreshed. The rooms are a good size, air conditioning worked, bathrooms again a good size,...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
