First visit to Venice, hotel chosen by my daughter who stayed in it before, what a fabulous choice it was. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff at the hotel. The room cosy and comfortable with a nice bathroom, but the icing on the cake was the view. The hotel is perfectly situated to explore St Mark's...

Our second stay at the Bucintoro and we still consider it the best place to stay in Venice. Close enough to the center of Venice but far enough from the noisy tourist masses that you can leave your windows open almost any time and enjoy a quiet lagoon view. Very convenient to the Arsenale vaparoretto stop and many of the...

Very nice classic and elegant hotel! Good service, close to St Mark's Square! Gorgeous view! The best 4* hotel to stay in Venice! Look for Stefano in the reception desk, he was very nice and gave us a lot of helpful information! The breakfast was delicious! The rooms are very nice!

Just outside the chaos and noise of the centre but an easy (and fabulous) walk in to Piazza San Marco. Well maintained, spotlessly clean with friendly, attentive staff. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends.

The room we had overlooked the Grand Canal at its junction with the canal going towards Arsenale. Just a couple of hundred yards away further from San Marco are a range of good value restaurants some without cover charge so you are out of the overpriced areas. The rooms are very pleasant, in a sort of Boat or State Barge...

This small hotel is something special! It's away from the hustle and bustle but still close enough. The staff were super friendly! Breakfast was also great. Rooms are beautiful, neat and clean inside. We were pleased and will definitely stay here should we come to Venice again.

We stayed for four nights at the Bucintoro in February to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. Chose the Bucintoro after much research due to its good reviews, impressive views and easy walking distance from St. Marks's Square. It was an excellent choice! We made our booking directly with the hotel as this is the only way to get one of...

We stayed at this hotel for an a short mid week break. In summary the hotel is amazing, it is set in a great location, a short stroll to St Marks square or if feeling adventurous turn off down one of the small streets and you'll find an array of small wine bars to grab a bite to eat. The...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
