Let me preface this by saying that, barring mobility/respiratory issues, everything in Venice is supremely walkable. We walked from the hotel to the San Lucia train station to go to Verona for a day in 30min (hitting up the Castello and Cannaregio districts on the way), and walked to the tip of Dorsoduro in the same time. Plus getting lost...

Chose this hotel after checking out TripAdvisor. How glad we did. From the minute we got of the public water taxi from airport to San Zaccari stop. We followed the short video on the hotel website for directions to the hotel So easy about a 5 min walk. Check in brilliant. Upgraded to a superior room which was superb. Massive...

A very comfortable hotel with helpful staff and sort walks to St Marks square and the Rialto bridge. They gave a helpful map which showed the straightest route to the Rialto bridge. You have to experience the streets of Venice to know how helpful this is! Good restaurants near by and a great breakfast in the morning.

We had a large room with a newly-remodeled bathroom. The beds were comfortable and it was very quiet. The breakfast was included and consisted of a nice array of cereal, eggs, meats, cheese, fruit and breads. The croissants were especially yummy. The owners and their staff members were extremely helpful and very friendly.

This is the best hotel I have ever known and ever stayed! Clean, quiet, the best location in the Venice, the best service by attentive stuff! The best Venetian breakfast! I cannot use other words than the "best" since it is really one word relates to Al Piave. I have already noticed in my previous review - all people served...

I visited with my boyfriend, we were recommended by my parents and so glad we close to stay here. Ideal location, friendly staff and lovely room. Only slight negative there were some mosquitos in our room but obviously cannot be helped, I just wasn't prepared for them. If I had known I would of taken repellant and bite cream. I...

This was our second stay in two years. Both stays were excellent. Wonderful location: close to St Mark's Square, ATM machine, vaporetto station, food and drink. Breakfast was wonderful. Room was fine - we didn’t come to Venice to sit in a room. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and modern. Staff spoke English, were friendly and...

This hotel is conveniently located but is far enough away from the crush of tourists in the San Marco area. We have always stayed in room 115 which is located in the annex a few doors away from the main hotel. It has a small terrace which is quite nice. The only drawback is that it is located on the...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
