Wonderful location by St Marks square. Friendly and helpful staff. Room with an amazing view! Took taxi from train station, worth every penny (euro).....direct to hotel and a wonderful way to see the city for the first time. Loved it and will come back.

Our recent stay at this hotel was just fabulous. We were there two nights and three days in total. Our room was 18 on the 1st floor. THERE IS NO LIFT/ELEVATOR at the hotel so pack light. The staff at the reception was exceptional. They were elaborate and accurate in their directions, extremely helpful in arranging water taxis and guiding...

Normally the rooms are good. We had two prepaid bookings. Two rooms with lagoon view for 3 nights booked by hotel.com . As we arrived the reception said he received the money from Hotel.com only for one room !! We had a discussion for 1.30 hours !! Then my friends had to go to a aparment 10 min away which...

Not smart or luxurious, but you get a very warm welcome from this small, family run hotel, and I thought the location was excellent. Most of the vaporetto routes stop just along from the hotel (also the airport ferry) and, if you have one of the front rooms, the outlook over the lagoon is stunning. The views at sunrise and...

Pros: Location and seaview. Cons: No lift Have more initiative to decorate the room a little or give some complimentary gift if the couples indicate honeymoon trip. Check in was smooth and fast. Reception staff was very helpful, he actually assigned one of the staff to assist in bring the luggage up to our room. really appreciate his help. Hotel...

Wonderful location but rather disappointing stay. Staff weren't welcoming at all, except the person in the restaurant for breakfast times. Food choices at breakfast were very limited, especially for one of us who is vegetarian. The room was okay, nothing special although I've read some reviews stating it is boutique which I can't understand. The room and bathroom could have...

Fantastic location. Old fashioned but pretty. My room was number 24. Quite small but perfect for a solo traveller. Breakfast was continental and tasty. Great coffee. Dinner was gorgeous. Staff attentive and a nice welcome. Down side...very noisy - the.room above must have been on a honeymoon! My suitcase was left in reception all day rather.than being secured safely. I...

The Pensione Wildner is a very nice hotel in a great location. Located on the harbor just outside the Grand Canal, it is less than 5 minutes from San Marco to the west. There is a vaparetto stop and a water taxi strop almost directly in front. The rooms are not large by U.S. standards but are typical for Europe....

I've stayed at this hotel two times......both time it was wonderful! The view was exceptional, the food delicious and the location is near the vaporetto so you can get everywhere easily. Make sure you try the prix fix menu .......it was very good! You can't go wrong when staying in Venice!

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
