The reception staff were incredibly helpful and kind and often went out of their way to assist with any query. The continental breakfast was good, although they ran out of a few things on a couple of days and the machine coffee was pretty awful! The room was clean, the bed comfy, and the location excellent. Not bad at all...

Right in the heart of Venice. Gondolas cruising by while you eat breakfast.. which was fantastic, by the way. Very small uniquely decorated rooms. Some rooms were bigger than others so ask them . Our room was so small your knees were in the shower if you sat down. But we did love it and recommend it. For the price...

Stayed here four nights. Listing on Booking.com and hotel web site are clear that this is a "cheap" option. Quality is above average for that category. Clean common areas. Towels changed daily, room cleaned. Decent cold breakfast of fruit, yogurt, cereal, bread, cheese, meat and pastries. Coffee, tea, fruit juice. Hotel can book theatre and concert tickets. Great location 2...

Well compared to another hotel we stayed in, this hotel was far more friendly than the other. We found the room small but quite nicely decorated. The hairdryer didn't work but we just stayed one night so it wasn't too much of a problem. The breakfast was good, decent enough. You have a choice of some Italian cakes, ham, cheese,...

After booking I was dreading our stay as reviews aren't great but it's really not that bad! We found hotel easily,it's minutes from Rialto bridge stop on vaporetto. Room is small but was clean and air conditioned, no elevator tho so could be difficult if elderly etc. Breakfast is basic but enough to fill up before hitting the pizzerias and...

Photos of this hotel are very deceiving. Room was exceptionally small, not like the photos and shower plug was blocked. Reception was simply a desk in a hallway - not what we were expecting. It does state that the hotel does not have lifts but nonetheless it is difficult to carry suitcases up 3 narrow flights of stairs. On the...

Our Venice trip started a little on the "unplanned" side. When we landed , we found that the grand canal was closed due to a kayak reggotta. Our transportation had to make a change and instead of landing at Rialto and a two minute walk to the hotel. We went to to San Marco and it took us 15...and that...

When you walk into the hotel , your immediate thought is, am I in the right place. For the amount of money spent for 4 days, one expects a luxury boutique style hotel. What you get is a mediocre style hotel, hard beds and pillows, very odd striped clashing red decor. All this one can get over however you need...

Not all the staff is very friendly. They are not really willing to help you. They try to send you to their next collegue. We booked a triple room and got 105.This is a double with a broken extra bed! (Watch out!) The manager though was friendly and willing to help. The location is really great! In room 108, there...

Had a decent sized room on the first floor with a canal view, great in the mornings to be woken up by a singing gondolier. Location is perfect turn right and you are two minutes away from Rialto, turn left and you are three minutes away from San Marco. Only thing that lets this hotel down are the bathrooms not...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
