Great location !! Friendly and helpful staff !! Room was nice and clean. The location was perfect, next to the Rialto bridge, and easy to find. Nice continental breakfast in the morning. I highly recommend this hotel if staying in Venice !!

Recently returned from a wonderful stay at Locanda Ovidius - three people in a room. Hotel location perfect, right on Grand Canal. Our room faced Calle Del Sturion, but it was quiet. Wonderful breakfast room on second floor with view of canal. Issue with mattress on the first night that was promptly rectified the next morning. Staff very helpful with... More

Perfect location, with a romantic and old fashion room. But the hotel could need some renovation, and there was no wifi or air condition in the room. Good stay, but it depends what you value the most on your holiday.

We were there for 2 nights with a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 small children). We got a great deal in the middle of August at 200 EUR a night for everyone in the same room. Really good! The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel, however, is a little old (but well kept), so the bedding,... More

We got a great deal for this hotel so wasn't expecting much. Firstly the location is ideal, right on the canal next to Rialto bridge. Being next to the bridge means that you can get lost around alley ways of Venice yet always find your way back without a map by just following signs back to the bridge. You can... More

I booked this hotel because I wanted to be in the heart of Venice, knowing that it would not have all the amenities we expect in modern hotels today. We had the top floor room, which was really an attic. An elevator took us to the 2nd floor, and then we had a winding staircase to the 3rd floor, and... More

Brilliantly located hotel right on the grand canal, very close to the Rialto Bridge, which meant it was a great location to explore and navigate around the city. We up-graded our room to the junior suit (which was a little expensive) but thoroughly pleased we did as it offered a great view of the canal and we enjoyed watching and... More

Stayed here for 3 nights - location is fantastic overlooking Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal. Went over 13/15 August 2016 weekend and it was hot but also very busy season. Staff friendly but the facilities are basic. No room service but lots of restaurants near by and behind the hotel a short walk away is a fruit market, some... More

This hotel is good value, and is in a great position next to the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. We had 2 rooms overlooking the canal, and it's definitely worth paying the extra cost. To wake up listening to the sounds from the canal, and then watch all the comings and goings was just perfect. There was a balcony... More

This hotel was chosen on a budget. I realise you get what you pay for- but sometimes there are things that you expect whether you are travelling on the cheap or spending lots on accommodation. The bedding in this place needs replacing. The pillows are ridiculously old and thin, and the throw over quilt is not inviting and comfortable. The... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
