See the photos of my face, torso, arm, and foot for very red bug bites, open drain in room, bug on wall of bathroom. Unfortunately I'm not able to post the video I took of the horribly rude owner trying to grab my phone from me.The hotel would not refund two nights in the horrible room I had prepaid. Can... More

The hotel has perfect location fronting the Grand Canal and less than 1 minute from Rialto bridge. The property has 2 floors with steep stairs but has the added advantage of a lift serving both floors. The hotel is very clean and rooms are serviced daily. The décor is somewhat tired and because most rooms overlook an alleyway, lack sufficient... More

I leave lots of reviews and I don't think I've ever left a negative one before. I tend to think that people in hospitality work really hard and so I don't like to nit pick on the small flaws. This is the lowest review I've ever given. Pros: fantastic location, perfect for getting to everything. Cons: The rooms were tired... More

Locanda Ovidius Hotel was a true gem! I booked through Expedia not knowing what to expect and it was a treasure! Very easy to find after taking the water taxi from the train station. Hotel staff was kind and informative. Wonderful location and very quaint rooms. Not very spacious, but that was expected for being on an island in Venice!... More

We stayed in room 209, which was small but had everything you could ask for except a view! Cleaned everyday. Staff were very friendly and help out whenever we asked questions. Breakfast was basic but suited our needs

We have just come back from three days in this hotel and we really loved it. The day we arrived there was a young man on reception who very helpfully explained the area as best as he could with his limited English, and the running of the hotel to us. We were in room 202 which is right next to... More

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel and while the decor could be upgraded, the beds were new and the most comfortable experienced during our 3 week trip. The staff were friendly ad very helpful and this hotel is SOOO close to the Rialto Bridge. Get off the water bus at Rialto Mercanto or you'll be lugging your bags across... More

This hotel is located right on the side of the Grand Canal about 150 metres from the Rialto Bridge. Our room was a premium room with excellent canal views, we paid 340 euros per night. The extractor fan in the bathroom was broken, as was the bedside light. There were 2 security issues, returning at 9 pm there was nobody... More

We stayed at the Locanda Ovidius for 4 nights as part of our Italy trip. We arrived by vaporetta on the opposite side of the Grand Canal to the hotel at the Rialto Bridge stop. First tip get off the stop after Rialto (from the railway) and this will drop you at the same side as the hotel. We had... More

We were traveling with another couple and they put us in rooms opposite each other in a parlor/ public space. We were able to meet up for breakfast easily and enjoy the wifi in the common area. It was very convenient to restaurants and shops on the canal. The rooms were a little dated and plumbing was questionable, but the... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
