This hotel was a quick walk from San Marco and its environs- a tourists dream! The staff was also very helpful and made great recommendations to us. Our room was on the first floor and had absolutely no view to speak of. It was nicely decorated in Venetian style with gold wallpaper and a glass chandelier. Because it was October,...

We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Venice. We liked this hotel. Its location was in a fairly quiet part of the city but an easy walk to the main sights. Venice itself is easy to negotiate so anywhere in San Marco is handy. Good restaurants close, but like all Venice, not cheap! The staff were very friendly...

We stayed as this hotel between August 31st and September 4th. We paid $150 euros per night and I am sure that we could have gotten a much better hotel for the same money. The hotel is rated as a four star, but in reality it is at best a 2.5 star. In particular: The breakfast was poor. The front...

We were upgraded to a superior double because it was a special occasion which we mentioned by email after booking but before arrival and was taken note of. We were given a very pleasant welcome. The room was very good, with a v large & comfortable double bed, tasteful pale green decor, good cupboard space and a safe. 4 large...

get a guidebook and a good map, the one the hotel gave us was quite confusing. The DK eyewitness guide was very good. go to ca Rezonnico, amazing, and the academy turned out to be a great choice to go to first. go early that way you miss the crowds

The hotel is located just five minutes walk (once you know your way !) from St. Mark's Square. It is located in a quiet thoroughfare so street noise was not a problem. The hotel ambience was very much in keeping with its environs. The bedrooms were clean and while a bit on the small side, were not claustrophobic (as can...

This was an average hotel- I know Venice is expensive, but I thought it was too expensive for the quality- our shower did not have a curtain. The staff was aloof and seemed put out when we asked for help. I would recommend this hotel, but I would also say that it's not great.

We found this hotel very easily from the San Marco vaporetto stop at night and were initally very worried when we arrived and an American guest was in reception (at 11.30 at night) complaining about the size of her room and that it was too hot. Our room was perfectly adequatly sized though, with a very clean bathroom (always a...

The hotel is located in the very center of Venice, you can walk to the main tourist attractions in no time. The receptionists very friendly and helpfull. We got a relatively large (large for Venetian standards) room with a nice large bathroom with a bathtub. Everything was nice, but it's not a 4-star quality as I know it. The room...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
