Romantic and amazing. Staff treated us like royalty from minute one with details like knowing our names, helping us find the sights and welcoming us with chilled prosecco and handwritten note congratulating us on our wedding. The terrace overlooking the Rialto and Grand Canal is prettier than the pictures. We loved room 109 as it was large, beautifully decorated and...

This hotel reminded me of an American Bed and Breakfast. It is a very small hotel and the staff will greet you by name. The owner introduced himself to us personally and the entire staff is very accommodating. The location is amazing and the hotel, and the rooms, have a very authentic Venetian feel. I prefer a hotel to look...

A very special place. We visited for 3 nights and was the best experience we have ever had. All of the staff are lovely and make you feel very special. Superb location - the terrace is a lovely place to sit and have breakfast or a drink. Matteo is charm personified! Oliver, so lovely and helpful and made our trip...

My favorite part of this lovey hotel is the balcony/terrace overlooking the grand canal. Eating the delicious breakfast (thanks for the crepes!) overlooking the traffic and bustle of the canal is surreal. My favorite time of day, though, was just before heading out for dinner - drinks on the terrace writing in my travel journal - one can almost imagine...

Beginning with lots of pre-trip assistance from Armando at the front desk, and on to Oliver, Matteo, Rosalba and others once we got there, you would be hard pressed to find more client focused staff at any place in the world. The hotel is charming, and the breakfast room and terrace are beautiful and comfortable- and, Rosalba will prepare a...

Only one word can describe this hotel - Wow Warm welcome when you arrive and a very attentive staff with the great location makes this a first class hotel. This hotel is a little expensive but the nice balcony and great breakfast is worth the price of admission. We enjoyed breakfast every morning watching the canal traffic and supply boats...

We stayed here on the last day of our honeymoon and it was AMAZING. The owner and his staff were by far the friendliest and most accommodating hotel staff we have ever met. I felt like I was in a 5 star hotel. The owner upgraded our room because of our honeymoon and provided us with a bottle of NICE...

At few places that you stay in your lifetime will everyone learn your name immediately and greet you warmly by name each time they see you. While staying at Al Ponte Antico, you get the impression it is everyone's pleasure to be of service. This small hotel is centrally located by the Rialto bridge with easy access to the vaporetto....

I had always wanted to go to Venice and decided this was the summer I would finally go! In a nutshell, the Al Ponte Antico was the best choice! It's everything that the reviews say-amazing location, great staff who really do know who you are as you walk in the door, friendly service. I wanted a hotel with a little...

Very good location. Near Rialto bridge. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. They call all their guests by their names with special attention. Depending on the room, it can be a dark one as the buildings are very close each other. This is very typical for Venice. Very nice stay.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
