We spent three nights here in late August. The first thing I want to say is that the convience to the Train station cannot be beat! When we were choosing a hotel we were trying to get close to St Marco and ended up here as we could not find an availability that wasnt outrageous in price. We were so...

Hi......Just want to say that we stayed at the hotel between the 18th to the 21st September 2007. The room was was tastefully decorated with enough room for the bags to be rummaged through for change of clothes. The staff were very helpful and the locality was excellent. It is situated close to the train station, so you do not...

This hotel is so convenient to the St. Lucia train station that we almost walked right past it. My wife happened to look up and see the sign just in time. Just outside up the alley from the hotel is a water taxi station, several restaurants, shopping, and a bridge over the canal. We didn't really explore the area around...

Stayed in Hotel Florida for 5 nights in June 2005. Its location is fantastic, near to train station and vaporetta stops. The hotel was towards the cheaper end of the hotels available in Venice but as this was a "cheeky" extra holiday a budget was necessitated. Our room was satisfactory but we did have to share a shower - room....

Location: We loved the location. Although we had no good view from our room it was close to St. Lucia Station and close to the public transportation. There were many restaurant, internet shops, laundry places, shops, ect. Room: Large room with good air-conditioning. Comfortable beds. Small TV. Not extremely clean but clean. No noise heard, peaceful. Bathroom: Not the cleanest....

This hotel's website clearly states every room has a private bath, a modern standard of two star hotels. I noticed no-bath rooms being offered on some travel sites. I booked thru Hotwire (A repeat customer for several years) When questioning the hotel, they admited "one room" has no bathroom. i.e. a storage closet with a bed. The hotel wanted me...

I booked this hotel solely because of its location. It is very close to the train station. There are bars, restaurants, bank machine and pharmacy close to the hotel. I have reserved a twin room. It looked a tad small but was compensated with an extra high ceiling. The staff have been very friendly. Breakfast includes yogart, fruit juices, cornetto,...

Spent 3 nights here. Great position. Just a 5 minute walk from Piazzale Roma bus station. Go over the Scalzi Bridge ( which is beautiful ) and slightly to the right you will find the hotel down a narrow ginnel. Its budget but our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast is just coffee and a bit...

Hotels in Venice tend to be expensive but this hotel was affordable. It's very close to the train station and vaporetto stops. It was a little tricky finding it because we didn't expect it to be so close. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We asked for a triple room and we got a huge room. While the furniture...

The hotel is good, near the railway station, but the brekfast that is served in the adjacent restaurant is horrible. Everything is cold. No corn flakes, or toast, cold packaged bread and an even colder attitude by the lady at the restaurant. not a really nice way of starting your day at venice. Plus points are: Next to railway station,...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
