More like a private residence than a hotel. Very nice spacious well equipped bedrooms with excellent bathrooms. I have stayed here three times now and I have no hesitation in recommending the Locanda Vivaldi to visitors to Venice, it is certainly much more than an 'Inn'. It is well worth taking a lagoon facing room for the truly wonderful and...

Hotel Locanda was in a great location on the Grand Canal - close by Pizza San Marco. Our stay included breakfast - a quaint breakfast area and a great spread! Our room was on the canal and it was great!

Although the rooms may be a bit on the small side, the location is great! Situated right on the St. Marks basin/Grand canal but just far enough from St. Marks square not to have all the crowds outside your window! Friendly staff and defiantly recommend going to the balcony on the top floor which offers an amazing view over the...

We had a great three days in Venice staying at Hotel Locanda Vivaldi. The location is great and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They even arranged a water taxi to the bus terminal on our return.

We stayed at Locanda Vivaldi in February. The hotel is a short walk (one bridge) from the San Zaccaria ferry terminal stop. It is a small hotel with only 27 rooms. We stayed in a room on the 2nd floor. It had a partial view of the Grand Canal and promenade. The room was a nice size but the bathroom...

Whenever we visit Venice there is only one hotel we prefer and that is Locanda Vivaldi Reasonable price for high quality of accommodation/service and hygiene. Also the breakfast is perfect, with great choice. With its beautiful view over the Lagoon and the scenery of the daily activities passing by it makes my stay in Venice unforgettable.

My wife and I spent four nights in a superior room looking over St Mark's Basin to San Giorgio Maggiore church. The room was adequately large, but not huge, sumptuously decorated and furnished with antique-looking furniture: well above an average standard. Heating was very efficient indeed, and it was very warm even though early in February. We needed the warmth...

It was such a wonderful experience to stay here! We were there in the winter, so I didn't want to have to travel too far for the sites as it's very cold. The location was great: close enough to the sites, but not loud! Our room had a gorgeous view, which was a plus. The breakfast was just perfect and...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
