Staying in an old abbey was quite a treat in Venice. NIcely renovated with great location to the train station for those leaving from there in the morning. Rooms are good size with big bathroom. Our bath had a huge shower but the shower nozzle was 10 feet in the air so we couldn't reach to adjust. Made it interesting....

We have stayed at the Abbazia on several occasions and it is our first choice on any visit to Venice. It was so good to return recently and be warmly greeted by the staff. The location is excellent, close to transport links and near the best bacaros and restaurant of the city in Cannaregio and the other side of the...

Close to the train station and to the bus station, it is very easy to get around the attractions nearby, staff were helpful and very lovely environment and although the room was slightly small it was still a good stay

We finished a tour in the Mediterranean Sea after 11 days. I really was surprise when I arrived in this magical, clean, impressive, and totally unique hotel. Matteo gave us the chance to do the check-in before the hour that is suppose to do it. He speaks Spanish and also other languages and that definitely was a surprise because he...

Enjoyed this hotel, the room was big and the bathroom was enormous for European standards, close location to train and bus stations. Would definitely stay here again. Staff were very helpful and courteous.

This hotel is well positioned near the train station and grand canal. We travelled here on our honeymoon and the staff are fantastic. We were given a beautiful room which was spacious and very large. The desk staff couldn't be more helpful with giving information on Venice and how to get to the cruise terminal after our stay here. If...

Good location, very close to train station. The hotel is not modern, however the size of rooms are bigger than european standards, clean and not in a noisy area. The staff is very friendly, breakfast is included and exceeded our expectations. I recommend it.

First I hesitated to review again as I have written so many and I was a bit traumatised by the vastly more expensive period I'd chosen to visit in. Also,on the last two nights of our four night visit I was kept awake by the inconsiderate person in the room above constantly walking over and back on the tiled floor...

This was our first visit to Venice and we were a little concerned about how to get around the place and we had to find a location for the start of a guided tour booked the next day. On arrival at the hotel the man at reception was very friendly and helpful telling us the best way to get around...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
