We stayed here in July. Our reservation was set back in January and we got a screaming good deal. I started reading comments on Trip Advisor after we had booked re: must have a canal room and avoid the Annex. When I investigated our booking further, I realized we had booked in the Annex, so was quite concerned with what...

We loved this hotel! We had just one night stay and our room was in the annex. The staff were extremely service minded and this charming hotel was more than we expected for our money. The only thing I found which a little annoying was that our bathroom floor got flooded when we showered. We solved this problem by having...

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Colombina 4 days in June. The room was big, nice, and clean. The service was good. The breakfast could have been better. but the locations was the best. very close to everything really. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone who visits Venice.

This hotel has a fantastic location - easy access to most attractions. Our room was large and clean with a window overlooking the canal. It was great to watch the gondoliers going by - with their banter and singing! There is a huge choice at breakfast and a lovely place to sit on the landing stage. The reception staff have...

Arriving on a taxi boat at this hotel is so easy and fun. Our room was luxurious with it's antique furniture and classic italian decor. The drapes were fabulous, the bathroom too. The room was quite large and comfortable for the 3 of us. We had a king size bed and there was a single bed for our 12 yr...

A very comfortable hotel with excellent, helpfull staff. We enjoyed sitting on the bench at the front of the hotel with a glass of beer watching the gondolas and taking in the atmosphere. An ideal, central place to stay if you want to get to many places and its own landing stage to take a trip by water.

The hotel is a relatively short walk from Piazza San Marco past some excellent shops and restaurants. It is situated on a small canal in a nice neighborhood. Our room was good sized and very nicely appointed. The staff was quite professional and helpful. The breakfast room, the buffet selections and the dining staff were all excellent. This was a...

Venice was our first stop in Italy the early part of June. I must say when booking on line and with 100's of properties to chose from all you can do is hope the folks that write reviews are accurate. I can honestly say were so happy with our 3 night stay at the Columbina. The front desk staff were...

We arrived by water taxi to the hotel which has it's own dock. The staff was very friendly and efficient and showed us to our room which was on the second floor on the canal overlooking the bridge of sighs to the left and a small bridge to the right. The room was not gigantic and had low ceilings but...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
