Great location - just a minute stroll from from Piazza San Marco! Wander the square, see the Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the library, Correr museum & look out at the lagoon, just moments after leaving your hotel. So close to all the action, but tucked...More
Stayed 3 nights. Our room was recently updated. Had room 406. We had a large room with separate sitting area, and our own private rooftop deck overlooking the city.

The Colombina is centrally located in the heart of Venice, just a few steps from St. Mark’s Square. The noble Venetian palace which accommodates the hotel faces one of the world’s most famous gondola serenades canal and boasts a breath-taking view on the Bridge of Sighs and the spires of San Marco Basilica. Guests can feel the elegant Venetian atmosphere, surrounded by the quietness of the city, rocked by the serenades of the gondoliers and by all the comforts of a modern hotel situated in one of, if not the most, romantic cities in the world....Locanda Remedio is the dependance of the Colombina, it is rated 3 stars and is located in an annex building just behind the Colombina Palazzo and connected via a private Venetian courtyard.

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

If you are looking for the water bus, then ask for a vaporetto, those are much bigger and have dedicated stops, there is one in front of the train station. If you arrive by plane, you would take a conventional bus or a conventional taxi to Piazzale Roma, and then from there you can take a vaporetto. For the vaporetto, you have to purchase a ticket in advance, and validate it before boarding.
Private water taxis are also available across from the train station and from the airport, but you have stated that you do not want those, they are much smaller boats.
The Hotel Colombina concierge makes great restaurant recommendations.
