The service was kind and responsive at the front desk but our room was thoroughly average for what we paid for. The room could have used a good scrub and was cramped (except for the bathroom, which was quite large!). There were half finished bottles...More
Great location - just a minute stroll from from Piazza San Marco! Wander the square, see the Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the library, Correr museum & look out at the lagoon, just moments after leaving your hotel. So close to all the action, but tucked...More
We read many reviews before choosing Hotel Colombina for our stay in Venice. We are SO glad we chose this hotel! We had reserved a Jr Suite with a view; however, were upgraded to a Full Suite. It was Doge Suite #502. The pros were...More

Very nice, clean and comfortable hotel. Great buffet breakfast in a Victorian setting. Hard to find. Would recommend water taxi that will take you right to hotel. Or get a porter at St. Mark’s Port. Hotel is near shops & cafes. Wonderful experience. Wanted to...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

If you are looking for the water bus, then ask for a vaporetto, those are much bigger and have dedicated stops, there is one in front of the train station. If you arrive by plane, you would take a conventional bus or a conventional taxi to Piazzale Roma, and then from there you can take a vaporetto. For the vaporetto, you have to purchase a ticket in advance, and validate it before boarding.
Private water taxis are also available across from the train station and from the airport, but you have stated that you do not want those, they are much smaller boats.
The Hotel Colombina concierge makes great restaurant recommendations.

I can't recall whether the main hotel has an elevator or not. You'll need to check with them. If you're located in the annexe next door to the hotel then, no it doesn't. The stairs are quite steep and you need to be fit particularly if you're located the upper floors.
