The Savoia & Jolanda is a beautiful and opulent hotel on the waterfront and the fine Venetian decor makes you feel you're in a very special place. It is no more than 200m from St Mark's Basilica, the Square and Doge's Palace. The public water busses are in front of the hotel and with its own restaurant, a coffee is...

Had the pleasure of staying at this hotel last week. Could not fault it. Room, service, breakfast absolutely superb. Out four day trip included hotel transfer from Marco Polo Airport and a trip to Mirano glass factory which was very interesting but very expensive. Great break for us. Blue skies but cold. Would go there again!!!

This was our first time to Venice and we really enjoyed this weekend away despite a few hiccups. The hotel staff were very friendly and spoke fairly clear English, We had arrived very late (11pm) after being delayed at the airport due to snow and luckily caught one of the last water buses out (last being about 09:30, 10:30 &...

We arrived really late on the Friday night in a snow storm, about 11pm, the reception was still manned and the gentleman very welcoming and friendly. He also advised of a pizzeria that was still open which was much appreciated after a long and delayed journey. The hotel is situated opposite the waterbus stop, literally took seconds to walk to...

We had our son with us on this visit and managed to get a very spacious room in this hotel with the sofa made up as a single bed. Quiet room at the back of the hotel - no view but didnt bother us as you do have to spend a lot more to get a canal view. Great breakfast...

The best aspect of this hotel is its position overlooking the lagoon and whilst it's not cheap it is reasonable compared to the more famous hotels situated close by. It's so easy to get too from Marco Polo airport. You need to get the Alilaguna water bus, a return ticket costs 27 euro when purchased in the arrivals hall. The...

We had a junior suite, which had an amazing view of the lagoon. This hotel is perfectly placed to visit both the famous and hidden locations in this beautiful city. We decided to experience Venice during the Christmas period when the tourist influx was less than at peak times, it was priceless :-)

The location of this hotel is absolutely stunning. We arrived on a coach transfer from Treviso airport via the Vaporetto to discover it's within spitting distance of the main attractions and opposite one of the major waterbus stations. With St Mark's Square just around the corner, I was able to rise early one morning, walk around the square, linger over...

In a world where standards seem to have slipped this hotel makes you have renewed faith! The staff are all really helpful and ensure you are looked after - nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spotless and clean, the maid service is fabulous and offers a turn down service which is welcomed. I was lucky enough to have...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
