Great location if you are looking to stay near the main train station, it's literally across the grand canal!! It's about a 30min walk to San Marco so it's not too far from the Rialto and the other sights. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, especially the gentlemen that helped us with our bags The rooms are quite small...

We have stayed here twice and will stay again when we return to Venice. Concierge are very helpful and the buffet breakfast is delicious. The hotel is located right across from the train station, so it's easy to get to.

We stayed one night in Carlton hotel and it was an excellent experience. Italian friends booked it for us as a gift and we found it perfect. Very friendly staff and very clean. The hotel is located in the grand canal just few steps from the parking of the cars(infact just 2 bridges). We had the chance to leave the...

This was a surprise break for my birthday from my husband, and was beautiful. We arrived on 30th December, room although small was beautiful and spotlessly clean, bathroom again spotless, and staff very polite and attentive. The breakfast which was included was a continental buffet and was also very nice and included unlimited hot drinks. The only downfall for me...

Beautiful, romantic hotel. Friendly staff. Good quality breakfast with lots of choice. Opposite railway station and an easy walk to St mark's Square. Hotel was spotlessly clean. We found many little side streets to wander down and explore. Will definitely return.

We spent 5 days in Venice before heading off to our Adriatic cruise. We specifically chose this hotel because of its proximity to piazella Roma and spectacular view. From the airport it's a 20 minute ride to Venice and another 10 minute walk to the hotel from the piazalle Roma. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are...

Amazing, comfortable Venetian hotel. Staff are helpful, courteous and accommodating. Breakfast was very tasteful. There are tables outside and you can have your cappacino while taking in the wonderful view of the grand canal. Train station is right across the canal which has a great deli, pizza place and coffee, wine bar. It's also a brief walk to the Rialto...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
