A very basic hotel that has the great advantage of being just off the Santa Lucia train station and relatively near the bus drop off from the airport. Also near a Vaporetto (waterbus) stop (Ferroviaria). There really isn't much to see around the immediate vicinity, but it's fairly walkable (maybe around 15 to 20 minutes, if you don't get lost)...

The Hotel has a good location. Very basic and small room. There is no lift so we had to carry our luggage up the staircase, which was quite unfortunate. Breakfast was average. I would recommend for short stays only.

The rooms are not very big but 3 ppl can accomodate. Rooms has not AC FANS but air vent is there for circulation. Lifts are not there hence request for 1st floor if old parents travelling with you. Its very close to station and also the Public transport/ferry stop is just few meters. Eating option are plenty near this hotel....

The hotel is very close to Santa Lucia train station. Clean and cozy room. It has a small refrigerator. The staff is very helpful. We booked for the economy room but did not notice that it had one queen bed, when we asked for two seperate beds, they changed it with the room with double beds without charging extra fee.

There are 3 things I liked most about this hotel: 1) Location - perfect if you travel by public transportation. Close to ferrovia, piazzale roma. We booked this hotel for a post-cruise stay and we were very happy by its location as we were travelling with a lot of suitcases. 2) Breakfast - It is the best you can get...

Let me start with the positive. This hotel is very close (pretty much right around the corner) to the train terminal and water bus and water taxi docks. It's on a main shopping street with lots of shopping and restaurants/cafés. While your first impression entering the lobby area is that it's old, dingy, worn down hotel and what-am-I-doing-here, the place...

This is a basic hotel, the staff were very helpful and offered to change our room, to one more accessable, The breakfast was fine and our room was spotless. Yes the decor was a bit tired but as we didn't spend much time in the room so that wasn't a major concern for us. Excellent location for water taxis, bus,...

Terrible hotel. Very unfriendly even rude staff .you need to walk with your luggage upstairs without elevator. Very noisy from outside but you can't close the window because it is very hot and it is no air conditioner. breakfast was fine.

Universo Nord Hotel is very near the Santa Lucia train station and Ferrovia. The breakfast provided was good. The only sad thing of this hotel is located pretty far away from San Marco and the wifi is not stable in our room.

Hotel Universo Nord is just a few minutes walk from Santa Lucia train station and Ferrovia. Located in a small busy street. This hotel is pretty old decorated but comfy. Room was clean and tiny with window but no view. Some nights were hard to sleep because of some mosquitos. Wifi only in a lobby. Breakfast were basic but nice....

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
