My teenage daughter and I stayed at Hotel American Dinesen and enjoyed the hotel and location. Very close to the central part of Venice yet just out of the way. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend.

We stayed for six nights here from March 26-April 1. Room 301 for one night then Room 202 (3 balconies!) for remainder. Great hotel with very hospitable employees. This hotel is tucked away from all the hustle and bustle but is only a 15 minute walk to San Marco Piazza or Rialto Bridge. The accademia vaporetto stop is minutes away....

Check in was quick and painless. Very friendly reception staff. We had room 202 which had 3 little balconies and was lovely to be able to open the full length doors and listen to the sounds of Venice. Beautifully decorated room with lovely views. Great location and far better being one canal off the Grand canal which is very noisey....

Cosy and human sized in a quiet and romantic area, remote from the crowd. Makes me think of Paris 7th district, rue de Verneuil, rue de Lille... I now feel at home. Good management, good staff, increasing quality level. Getting a 4th star permitted to enjoy an up rated breakfast

We stayed for 4 nights. We took the Alilaguna Water Bus to the Zattere stop which took about 1 hour 40 mins and was then only a few minutes walk to the hotel. The ticket machine in the airport didn't work but you can buy tickets right down beside where the boats departs from a cash desk. Although we arrived...

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights before we went skiing in the Dolomites. On arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite and the room was lovely. Very small but very nice hotel over looking a quiet canal. The rooms are beautiful and beds are comfortable. The staff was amazing at helping us out, even when we had an emergency. Everything was taken care of for us. They even helped get us watertaxis and calling them to get a taxi back to the hotel. Easy to get...

Venice offers many alternatives for everybody taste but this hotel is something special as it is next to any major point of the town, easy to reach by "vaporetto" and plenty to see. The hotel is right on one of the inner canals and very quite. Clean and comfortable. We had some problem with the internet connection. Everything else quite...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
