On our recent trip around Europe we booked as we travelled and found this great hotel right in the heart of Venice , 200 metres to St Mark's doors. Well appointed with a great breakfast, all but one of the staff were helpful. The night manager is like an Italian Basil Faulty. I asked for if they had any waste...

If you are looking for a Good location, this is the place to stay. Forget about modern decorations in the Rooms or Lobby, this was my 2nd visit in a year and will try a third one.

I stayed at Albergo for one night during last week of march 2012. It was a great discovery when i found the hotel!! The hotel website is also not helpful in this regard. They do not provide any specific map, although its in the heart of the town. Rooms are small, but it would have been okay, if they were clean....

I travelled to Rome and Venice on 17th of March 2012. The best western at Rome was good and then I went to Venice. The hotel is in the center of San Marco which is a definite advantage but finding it was hell. None of them knew the hotel. The hotel is very old and the room was a riot....

We loved the location and rooms for our first trip to Venice as a family of 4, kids ages 8 and 11. We had two adjoining rooms which had a vestibule in common with ample storage in an armoire for all our luggage and coats (it was March), a safe, and an ample bath with countertop around the sink (Room...

This hotel is to say the least in need of a major refurbishment. We were allocated to the 5th floor and had to cart our luggage with no help at all up two flights of stairs after taking the lift to the 4th floor. The furniture and bathrooms facilities are certainly not up to the standard of a Best Western...

We arrived a day late due to a hoax bomb scare at our transit airport but the 2 rooms we booked were kept for us. The receptionist was matter of fact and our only help to our rooms was to be shown the lift and which floor to get off. The hotel has definitely seen better days but I understand...

Our bedroom was huge, with nice furniture & windows facing one of the small channels and a small bridge over it. Quiet place, good service, excellent breakfast, local & english newspapers, WiFi, and a computer for everyone's use. Best location, right on top of Piazza San Marco. An advice: Experienced friends had advised my wife and I to board the...

We arrived in Venice a day early for our cruise, and spent one night here in Sept/11. We had some difficulty negotiating the cobblestones in San Marco, and the steps up and down the bridge connecting to the hotel due to extra luggage for the cruise. Upon arrival we were checked in and directed to our room - no help...

I have just come back from my fourth stay in Venice in a few years. It was my second stay at Albergo San Marco. The previous was in November 2009 for 4 nights with two friends ( rooms 208 and 406). This time I was with my daughter and we stayed for 3 nights in a superior room (114) on...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
