We booked this Hotel as it seemed well recommended. So the good stuff first. 1- OK position on Grand Canal 2- Authentic (That's a nice way of saying old Venice) 3- Good front desk staff Now the not so good stuff 1- There are NO lifts! The stairs were so steep as well and I'm not unfit. We were on...

My family of four stayed at San Cassiano Ca'Favretto for 2 nights as the start of our Italian vacation in August. A water taxi from the airport would have been easier to arrive at the hotel, right of the canal, but probably 10x more expensive, so we took the water ferry to San Stai station. It's not very far, but...

My two daughters and I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Hotel San Cassiano. The boutique hotel was brimming with old Venetian elegance and the staff were warm and so helpful. The location was perfect as it was easy to walk to all areas but was quiet and away from the crowds. Our room was very comfortable and...

I loved this hotel! The staff were fantastic and couldn't do more for you. Central, but initially hard to find. Very clean and quiet. The breakfast room is small but lovely. My husband and I had our two children with us. Our room had two bedrooms and one bathroom. I would recommend this hotel!

We stayed in one of the superior double rooms over Christmas and had a wonderful stay. The hotel itself is pretty stunning with a beautiful canal side bar which we were surprised wasn't more used by other guests. The room was big, clean and well equipped, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was in good working condition. The breakfast...

Lovely hotel just a 15 minute walk from all the main sights of Venice! We got the Alilaguna from the airport to San Stae and the hotel was a five minute walk from there. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a double room with a side view of the Grand Canal which was full of character and...

This hotel is a medieval building which has been adapted with modern facilities without detracting from its charm. Our room was a small double with a side view and had all the facilities you would expect apart from tea/coffee making. There was a safe, small fridge/mini-bar, TV and ensuite with bath (shower over) and toiletries provided (soap, shower gel, shampoo,...

Top-shelf luxory hotel with regally furnished rooms, a romantic, oldfashioned ambience, and from its façade a breathtaking view of the Canal Grande. Extremely friendly, helpful and sharp-witted staff with never a whiff of snobbery. Great service and dining. Easily one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. I felt extremely lucky to discover a budget-friendly off-season offer via Momondo...

If you wish to truly experience Venice this is the hotel to stay at. it is a beautiful hotel with in walking distance of many of the attractions of Venice. It is directly on the Grand canal and you must arrive in a water taxi ( cheaper if you arrange the water taxi from home. Pay for 2 trips to...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
