The hotel is close to Piazzale Roma where you find all transport to and from Venice, i.e. taxis, buses, train. You also find the Vaporetto (the water bus) at the same location. The hotel is very nice, venetian and has a nice and service friendly staff. The breakfast is super and the restaurant in the hotel offers great food. The...

My husband and I stayed here for one night before we embarked on our Royal Caribbean cruise. The location couldn't be beat and the hotel staff was very nice and helpful! It was super convenient to and from both the airport and the cruise port, and the Piazzale Roma (where the Vaporetto boats can take you for an inexpensive Grand...

Loved this lovely hotel. Right on a canal. With the exception of one staff member who was short with us when we tried to clarify her directions, everyone was cheerful and pleasant. Rooms a bit small but nicely appointed. Absolutely beautiful dining area. Wonderful breakfast and with great wait staff. Loved the piano playing in the evenings. My husband and...

We stayed for one night pre cruise and chose it for it's location near the cruise port and near the bus drop off from Treviso airport. It was absolutely charming, the decor was faded grandeur and the rooms although small packed with every amenity. It was a bit of a trek to St Marks square but through the shop filled...

Friendly, tidy, clean, hotel's coffee shop is pretty good, pricing competitive, compared to outside. Venice is not that expensive as people say, the water-bus station is very close to the hotel, there is a nice park around the hotel, breakfast is super.

We had a very tiny room just fit for a double bed. There was even no enough space for our suitcases. Though, clean and neatly innovated interior. Breakfast was good. Location was excellent.

Just back from a glorious weekend in Venice, and stayed at the Papadopoli hotel there. We found this old world hotel very charming and comfortable (Sofitel standard beds and linens) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We reserved a deluxe room with canal view and it indeed had a delightful view on a nearby church and on a little canal....

I had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Papadopoli. We stayed at a few places around Italy (Rome, Florence, Sorrento), but this was definitely my favorite. The beds were absolutely wonderful - some of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! It was also very easily accesible from Venezia train station which was good news for myself and my...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
