This hotel is perfectly positioned to take advantage of all the magic Venice has to offer. A short stroll to all the 'must sees'. The rooms are more than adequate and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. To sit and have breakfast on the balcony with the gondola coming and going is magical. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel....

I have stayed in hotels all over the world from motels to 5 star resorts and experienced all kinds of levels of service but this hotel is firmly in my top 3 worst places I have ever stayed. We arrived around 7.30pm in the evening for our 4 night stay and were checked in by a very rude and disinterested...

This was our second time at the Hotel Monaco Grand Canal, we were made so welcome by all the staff especially by the Restaurant Staff, who all made us feel so at home. The attention to detail was fantastic. And although we were not in the top strata of people staying we were made to feel as if we were....

Very attractive hotel. The old world charm mixed perfectly with the mod cons we all expect today. It's position on the grand canal couldn't have been better. My only criticism was that the food was expensive for what it was. It was good but not out of this world

There is no better place to stay right in the heart of Venice, right next to St Marks Square, right next to Doges Palace, and right next to the hustle and bustle of the gondolas coming and going. The breakfast in the morning is held right next to the Station where all the gondolas are leaving, and it is definitely...

Good thing Globus showed us how to get to this hotel through the winding streets over the bridges in Venice. Breakfast is not great scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. Eat it you'll need something to burn as you walk around Venice. Do the tourist stuff take the gondola ride, listen to the musician's in St. Marks Square. Buy gelato in...

16 years ago we sta yed at this pretty hotel at the entrance to the Grand Canal and in the morning had breakfast on the terrace behind red geranims flowers on a railing that edged the terrace to the water and watched Venice's water traffic's hustle and bustle. Our room upstairs had no grand view, but it was Venetian style,...

Booked via Booking.com for six night stay. Have stayed in many hotels in the course of 18 visits to Venice for both work and holiday - including Danieli, Metropole, Savoia and Jolanda. Could not recommend this one high enough. Location:Grand Canal, St Mark's 2 mins, San Marco vaporetto stop in front of it as are gondolas and water taxis. Rooms:...

Location is perfect; hotel itself isn't that great. There standard room is by far the smallest I've ever stayed at. I don't know what else I can say, besides the price being a bit steep. Maybe my expectations were a bit high having stayed at cheaper but grander hotels in Rome. One can argue this city isn't meant for so...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
