We reviewed The Bauer Hotel on TripAdvisor before going and chose to spend less money and stay in the Casa Nova. We are not ones to spend much time in the hotel so we were ok without a view. The entrance to the Casa Nova is right next to the main hotel, and the large church. Our room was clean,...

This hotel is so beautiful and special. We arrived via a water taxi straight to the hotels landing stage. We were early as we had early flights, but the staff took care of our cases and checked us all in before we went off to explore. We decided to have lunch in the hotel which was excellent and the staff...

Not knowing it was in the middle of carnival when I planned my arrival, we took a water taxi from the airport in the morning and in no time arrived at the hotel where suitcases were quickly off loaded and we were checked in. The front office staff remains very professional throughout the entire stay, and took the time to...

This hotel is beautifully located right in the heart of San Marco but having just spent three nights here, this is its single biggest asset. Despite the cost, the accommodation is outdated, basic amenities were lacking from the room (shampoo, conditioner, coffee making facilities), front desk staff were pretty dismissive and the breakfast was ordinary at best. The reality is...

This is our first visit to Venice and we will be returning to both the hotel and the city again. The room was very spacious clean and plenty of space for our clothes. There is a lovely bar over looking the canal. And it has its own private jetty to get your Gondola and water taxi. We simply didn't stay...

As others say, you couldn't hope for a better location - 2 mins from St Mark's Square and beautiful views. No idea why, but we were upgraded from an entry level room to one of their suites. And it was mindblowing. Beautiful, huge room. Balcony with views you could die for. We didn't eat in the hotel, but the staff...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
