We took the number 5 bus from the airport to Venice at night, struggling to get our bearings in the dark. That’s Venice for you - you just have to accept that directions are not always easy! We booked a standard room as a last minute escape from home and to see an empty Venice. The room was very small, with minimum hanging space, 2 shelves for clothes and no room to put anything in the bathroom. We were offered an upgrade at 100 Euros a night! Think someone was trying to rip us off! The positive is that the location looks to be great and we are looking forward to seeing the sites in a much quieter than usual Venice. Avoid the Al Giglio restaurant just a few minutes walk away. It may have been established in 1712, but it has a lot to learn about making good food 😥 Last point - as like many Venetian hotels there is no lift and the concierge didn’t offer to help us with luggage. At 2 very steep and high floors, it was difficult after our trudge to find the hotel. For those entering Italy in Covid second wave times, you will be asked to compete 2 forms to enter Italy. One had to be handed into BA, the other we weren’t asked for! They seem to be setting up for rapid testing at the airport, so this post may be out of date by the time you read it.…
This is our hotel of choice when we visit Venice-and we have stayed here several times. The peaceful and tranquil location, close to Piazza San Marco, is on a quiet side street which ends at a canal from which gondolas glide past. The airport water bus stop is close by as are the vaporetti stops giving you easy access to other parts of Venice and the lagoon islands. Special mention to the friendly staff who assist at breakfast and in housekeeping. Our preference is for those rooms accessible through the courtyard as this is a delightful part of the hotel.
Negatives.... I had read previous reviews about the size of the rooms and the difficulty of finding the hotel and had thought “surely not that small or that tricky” but the previous reviews are right. We had booked via BA for a standard room and yes the room was exceedingly small. The hotel is near the Piazza San Marco, down a small street. The easiest way to get to it is to walk along the seafront, westwards, until you reach Harry’s Bar when you turn right, walk to the end of this street and turn left, continue for about 200m when you reach a small square, cross the canal over the bridge and about 20m on your right is a pharmacy on a corner with a sign above it for the San Moise hotel (looks like an old fashioned, glass police sign), turn right and go down the small street to the end, turn right again and you will be facing the canal and the hotel is on your right. Positives.... the reception staff were fabulous and very helpful. The buffet was good and the lady serving was excellent, dashing around serving the customers as they came in and always cheerful. The hotel is in an absolutely fabulous situation.....you really are in the heart of Venice. Every where is within walking distance, if you don’t mind walking. Try and use a traghetto to cross the Grand Canal, its the next best thing to a gondola ride. There are lots of eateries within walking distance in all price brackets. We would go back to this hotel but definitely upgrade to a bigger room. …
The hotel is very central, an excellent location just a few minutes walk from Piazza San Marco but in a quiet corner. Breakfast and staff were good, but the room was quite a disappointment. The bathroom was tiny and old, a shower with a disgusting plastic curtain Stairs to walk up to the bedroom from the bathroom and a wall-to-wall carpet that for sure has seen better days.... The walls were also covered by fabric which for sure was beautiful at the beginning of the last century... the ceiling was full of dead mosquitoes (and we added another few...), spiderweb was hanging from the lamp... The A/C was also extremely noisy.
A good experience with easy check in. Decent breakfast that could be better but could be better if not so cramped. No real English TV stations on the tv. Overall an ok hotel with no real issues. Looks like it would be nice in summer when you can sit outside.
I stayed at this place and experience good breakfast, a spacious and comfortable room, plenty of hot water, good customer service, excellent location and proximity to San Marcos Square and the main designers Street, and the pier from where to take a boat ride to the airport of to the busses. The location and the price was perfect and I would stay here again any day of the year.
I stayed at Hotel San Moise during the November 2019 floods (the second-worst in Venice’s history) and the staff could not have been kinder or more accommodating. I was allowed to check in early, and after it was discovered that all of my clothing had been soaked in the flooding, the hotel laundered all of my clothing at a discounted rate, and rushed the service to make sure I had my clothes ready that afternoon. When the floods continued into the next morning, the front desk offered to let me stay in my room past my original checkout time, and then stay in the lobby, so that I could have as much time as needed to avoid the flooded streets. I actually joined TripAdvisor just to post this review because the staff was so incredible! On top of this, the hotel is in an excellent location, and the rooms are clean with pretty, old-school decor. Definitely would return!…
My husband I have recently returned from a trip to the San Moise Hotel. We booked a standard double room and found it to be of adequate size with a Pleasant view over the courtyard. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a mini bar filled with water, wine and soft drinks and snacks on the table in a basket (all chargeable).Breakfast was included and consisted of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, rolls, cakes , bread for toasting , jams and honey, sausage, bacon and scrambled egg. Something for everyone and perfect for satisfying your hunger till lunchtime. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate were available too. we were impressed that Alpro soya milk was also available. We have asked for soya milk in many McDonald’s restaurants in the UK and they don’t stock soya for some reason, so to find it in a small hotel is very impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would say the hotel is ideal for couples and the location perfect as only 5 minutes walk to St Marks Square. If asked for any negative comments ,it would be ,that to reach the breakfast room you have to leave the main hotel and walk round the corner. Not too much of a problem ,but means in winter months you need to don coats (and wellies in the Acqua Alta). However, this would deter me from returning. The hotel is good value for money and the location ideal. Thank you San Moise for a lovely stay and look forward to returning again in the future.…
This was so Italian we loved it. We got upgraded to a family suite which had a fantastic view of the canals. We could sit on the balcony and watch the gondolas go past. Great location to St Marks and restaurants are everywhere. We had 3 nights here which I think is enough to visit Venice. Breakfast was really nice and had a lovely view of the canals. Got lost a lot as everything looks the same but that's the fun of it and you get to see more.
