I booked this hotel back in November 2013 for July 2014, based on trip advisor ratings. My room was reserved with a credit card. A week before I was leaving, I received an email stating there was a problem with my reservation and I needed to resubmit my credit card information. I cooperated and received another confirmation of my room....

Railbookers arranged our stay at this marvelous hotel during our rail travel in Italy. My family and I loved it! The hotel is beautiful and charming. The front desk and service staff were friendly and gracious. We were greeted with smiles and “buon giorno” every morning. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. The hotel is accessible by water with its own...

Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli was convenient to get to from the airport and very close to all the sights in Venice. It is directly accessible to a Vaparetto stop, which made it very easy to get around. It is located beside Church of San Stae, a beautiful church founded at the beginning of the 11th century and reconstructed in the 17th...

This is a $400/night hotel. I would have rated it higher except for 2 issues. First, at this price, I expect free wifi at least in the lobby. They charged for it everywhere. Second, the attitude of a couple of the fellows at the desk was impatient and a bit condescending when we asked for directions and restaurant recommendations. Also,...

We arrived at the hotel by water taxi. Check in went smoothly. Our room was nicely appointed but much smaller than expected and a little tattered given the price. The wall was beat up and had chips of missing paint that would seem easy enough to fix. We freshened up and then took off by foot to explore this part...

We has booked into another hotel, San Cassiano Residenza D'Epoca. When we arrived at reception, we were told that we would actually be staying at another hotel around the corner, which turned out to be the Palazzo Giovanelli. We were given no explanation at all, but were taken round with our luggage and they didn't seem surprised to see us...most...

Start with a welcoming outdoor terrace, a beautiful reception area, a full breakfast room with excellent cappuccino and service. the room was a little warm, so I had to change rooms, but the rooms were very nice and comfortable. it is within walking distance of the rialto bridge and several restaurants. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

This hotel was perfect for the beginning of our honeymoon. It’s nestled away in a corner of Venice, but so close to everything just a water bus trip away. We were confused as to how to find the entrance of the hotel, but we figured it out and when we did it was a bonus because it was right next...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Palazzo Giovenelli. We were booked at another hotel and were moved due to problems with the hot water heater and feel that we got the better end of the deal! The location was perfect. You could walk to the Rialto Bridge and the Jewish Ghetto. It was in a quiet area but very...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
