Stayed at this hotel for a weekend. The hotel is quite nice and its location is great. Really close to the bus station, in a neighborhood which has all the beauty of Venice plus a considerable quietness compared to San Marco... however, there are a lot of bars and good restaurants around. About the hotel itself... the hotel was ok,...

The location is wonderful. The breakfast is wonderful, you can sit inside or enjoy the weather and sit outside. We laughed at the hotel key, which was huge! Our room was a bit dated and our beds were not the most comfortable. The shower was smaller than on a cruise ship, so if you are a bigger person, good luck!...

Spent 3 nights at Al Sole at the end of October. It was everything we hoped it would be; charming old building, comfortable room, good breakfast. What surpassed our expectations was the amazing customer service we received, expecially from the front desk staff. Checked us in early, upgraded our room to a view of the delightful garden and Venice rooftops,...

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October and loved it! The staff are excellent and although we had a slight niggle with the room they couldn't do enough for us. We were given another room overlooking the canal and had a very comfortable stay. The inclusive breakfast buffet is good with plenty of variety . The neighbourhood...

Just arrived back after 3 nights in the Al Sole. We booked through Expedia after looking at Trip Advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. We took a water taxi from the airport and it brought us straight to the hotel. It was a great experience. We walked into our Hotel, which looked like a typical Ventian style from the...

First of all, the directions on the website to the hotel from the railway station are wrong, most of the street names are different on the buildings that have the street names on. The "3" steps and turn left are actually 13 steps and this makes it the second bridge. The instructions say about the bridge next to the station...

Dear SueandDav, thank you for expressing your opinion, as always will be useful for us. However i would just like to point out that the information found on our official website are correct (to be sure were checked before writing it, the only thing is in the website there is wrote three steps and they are seven). As for breakfast,...

As previously noted by everyone, this is the place to be if you are humping luggage from the train station. Young lady at front desk was very helpful and friendly as was the the gentlemen who took our luggage to our room. The place is charming, on a canal in front of a beautiful bridge. Nice lobby and common areas,...

Lovely traditional Venetian hotel. Ideal location, extremely close to the bus and vaporetto stations - we had a view of the canal and it really was beautiful. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice and not wanting to spend a fortune (easily done!)

Al Sole is a quick walk from the train station, up, down, and around the canals, about 10 minutes. There is a quiet garden area for breakfast (included) and just enjoying a few take away drinks in peace. Close enough to everything, although Venice is very twisty and it's easy to get lost, which is the best part as long...

Lovely small hotel in a quiet location - a plus in Venice!! Still within walking distance of main tourist attractions (everywhere in Venice is walkable) and only 10 minutes walk from Piazza Roma the coach station. Friendly welcoming staff. Bright breakfast room with outside courtyard. Good choice of breakfast to cater for all tastes. Good coffee and a choice of...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
