We stayed in Ca Bragadin Carabba for 4 nights in mid-April. The hotel is in a wonderful location; it is about a 15 minute walk to Rialto or San Marco which makes it ideal for exploring by foot. The staff were extremely helpful and gave us a free room upgrade, wifi free of charge (something which many expensive 4-5 star...

We stayed at this hotel April 18th 2013 for 4 nights, could not fault it. The hotel was spotless and the staff were brilliant, so helpful and polite. We did not have breakfast as we wanted to try other places so we went to Annikas which is about 30 yards away around the corner this opens at 8 am. Coffee...

We stayed at Ca Bragadin Carabba for 4 nights in early April in a classic room which we feel represented good value for Venice. The map provided and YouTube video are really useful for finding the hotel! Location is excellent - we walked everywhere easily, including back to Piazzale Roma for the airport bus which only took 25 minutes with...

We have one of the larger rooms with 12 foot ceilings, two large windows overlooking a piazza, a king sized bed and a large bathroom by european standards. They have 24 hour room service, continental in room or buffet breakfast in the small sunny dinning room. The staff is very helpful for finding sights, tours, restaurants and services. If you...

A place easy to find if you follow the helpful instructions of the hotel. Centered in the citycentre, 5 minutes from Rialto, 10 minutes from San Marco, the hotel is nevertheless located in a very silent neighbourhood of Castello. At the reception desk you will always find answers to your questions (Italian/English language, no German). The breakfast (if you pay...

Excellent stay at this lovely Inn near the Rialto Bridge in Venice. Definitely use the map they provide to help find the hotel - we found it easily with no problem. The room was large and spacious with a large, comfortable bed, wardrobe, desk and comfy chair. The bathroom was spotless and the shower was great. The staff were friendly...

Excellent hotel in Venice. The room was large and had all the nice amenities you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Great location (a bit difficult to find it first) so close to Rialto and piazza San Marco, plus lots of nice eateries around the hotel. Yes, we did not taste the breakfast there, try the little cafes in...

After some initial difficulties finding the place (you really need to keep your eye out for the plaque on the wall with the doorbell on), we found it to be a really nice little hotel. We had the room with the private terrace, which would have been great in the summer, just a shame it rained for the 3 days...

Really, what's not to like about this place? 207€ for four nights in a big room with a huge bed, only 5 mins walk from Rialto bridge and 10 mins from St Marks square. It was clean, mostly quiet and just around the corner from a great little osteria serving good food and prosecco. A couple of small quibbles; the...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
