We have been to Venice with the kids for Christmas holidays and have enjoyed staying at the dell' opera hotel. The hotel is strategically located in the heart of San Marco. The rooms are large and the personnel is friendly. Breakfast is good as well, but small restaurant so you need to wait during rush hours. Overall, excellent experience. We...

We stayed for 4 nights on 2/4 and we're absolutely delighted with the position of the hotel and that there was a lift rather than the usual flights of stairs. The only negative was the room on the 2nd floor which was near the kitchen and breakfast room which made for a very noisy wake up early in the morning....

good hotel, remarkably spacious room, quiet, overlooking a small canal. Far enough from San Marco to be uncrowded but could walk there easily. Staff (esp Enrico) were really helpful. Breakfast was nice too, simple but good. Hard to find when you first arrive suggest take a water taxi rather than drag your bags around while you look for it.

Great location--open the window and watch gondoles passing by below, good breakfast, great, helpful staff, and a little adventure every evening coming back! We are a family of 4 with a kid and a teenager and the room was perfect for us. The staff was able to recommend restaurants where we had great dinners without breaking the bank.

Quiet hotel, large room (205), super clean. We requested twin beds. The room was furnished with an armoire, desk, coffee table and 2 armchairs in addition to a king size bed and a twin bed which doubled as a lounge. Plenty of room for our luggage. This room was twice the size of the rooms we usually find in Venice....

Beautifully positioned, close to St. Mark's Square, yet quiet. Superior rooms facing the canal are charming. Rooms are big and very clean. Very helpful staff at the reception. Nearby plentiful of good restaurants.

Lovely hotel that was centrally located within walking distance of St. Mark's Square. The hotel is right on the canal. Rooms were what you would expect in Venice (small) but the atmosphere of the hotel was great. Nice staff. Small elevator. Great breakfast. Couldn't ask for anything more. I would definitely stay there again!

Nice little gem of a hotel located just minutes from St. Mark's Square, shopping, dozens of quaint, understated restaurants, including a fabulous authentic little wine bar/restaurant immediately next door, which is great when you arrive the hotel late after a long day of travel. The hotel has a subtle modern decor. The the rooms are nothing fancy, but they are...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
