Lovely boutique hotel with amazing, friendly and ever- helpful staff. Our room was on the 3rd floor at the front and we only heard any late night noise (bistro and restaurant across the road) one evening when we had the windows open. No sound could be heard when the windows were closed (other than the aircon).
Our room was large with a large bathroom and wonderful walk-in shower. The breakfast choice was excellent with made to order hot breakfasts beautifully presented and cooked. Good location with shops, restaurants, cafes and buses nearby. Being of an age, we took the bus up to cite alta. All the Italians we met were very friendly and helpful and keen to practise their English.
It is only a very short journey from Bergamo airport but it is an extremely busy airport and, when we landed, around 8.30pm, there was a long queue for taxis and none there. There is an airport bus but it is a normal bus without luggage space. If you travel with less luggage than us then this may be an option. It is a fair walk then to the hotel though there is a bus you can take but beware, many of the buses stop running mid-evening.
It is a beautiful city in two parts, upper and lower and a wonderful hotel. We stayed a week which, I understand, is fairly unusual. We did travel to Milan for one day, 1 hour by train, but the Lakes were a 2 hour journey with a change so we didn’t manage that. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can’t praise the hotel staff highly enough, especially the front desk staff, Francesco, Joanna and Rebecca who really made our stay special.

I loved this hotel. The staff are superb - everyone I spoke to was helpful and very friendly. The room was big and very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless with everything you need. Breakfast was great. Small outside terrace very peaceful for relaxing at the end of the day.

This hotel is small (12 rooms) ideally located to explore Bergamo, both Alta and bassa citta. I cannot say enough about the warm welcome and friendly service offered by the Petronilla team. Truly genuine and simpatico. The hotel offers a very complete breakfast, with fresh fruit, and various breads and pastries, as well as breakfast meats and eggs. The hotel’s decor is eclectic, so best be aware that rooms are not furnished with stock pieces you would expect in upscale hotels. That said, nothing was missing in the room - large bathroom, robes and slippers, water and snacks, minibar, etc. We had booked a studio room with a balcony, which ended up offering an unappealing view.

Small/Intimate hotel with super location. Design furniture and rooms in different colors. The receptionist was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Ordered a small bottle of Franciacorta delivered to the room, and got a great tray supplemented with cheese, olives and snacks. Nice breakfast!

We returned to the Petronilla after 8 years, and I'm happy to report that it is just as lovely as ever. Very nice breakfast, with fresh fruit, eggs made to order (deliciously), good coffee, and pastries. The staff is kind and helpful, with meticulous attention to detail. By Italian standards, the bathrooms are spacious, and also nicely designed. Our room (4th floor) was charming and comfortable. The Petronilla is in a perfect location, quiet but walkable to everything (if you don't like walking up hills, there is a funicular to go to the upper city). Highly recommended!

When I saw the hotel from outside I thought this will be disappointment.
BUT, It was the complete opposite.
Small but super nice hotel, rooms are quite big for a European hotel, modernly furnished, super clean.
They pay attention to every single detail, from welcoming the guests to the all necessities in the rooms.
We really liked all the setup, from reception, rooms, dining area.
Super polite and qualified staff.
The Manager of the facility was extremely helpful, big thank you to her.
The Location is perfect, very easy to reach it, but you are practically in the center.
I highly recommend this place.

What can I say? All the previous reviews are spot on. Great hotel in good location, close to shops & restaurants. Excellent breakfast with a good selection of fruits & pastries, eggs cooked to your liking on request. Our room was very spacious. bathroom large with bidet & fantastic shower.Uta, the boss is brilliant as are all her staff. On the final day my wife had a very sore foot & couldn`t walk. Unfortunately our flight home was scheduled for 21.30, Uta let us stay in our room until 1pm and thereafter we sat in the lovely reception area where she made us a pot of tea. Would love to return as Bergamo is a beautiful city.

We stayed for three nights at this hotel and I cannot find fault with it. It's a walk away from all the things you'd want to see in Città Bassa (the modern part of town) and also from the bus stop or funicular that take you up to Città Alta (the historic part). There are 12 stylish rooms, bathrobes, slippers and complimentary water and sweet treats. If you have a car, there's no problem with parking as they have a garage. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Having said all that, I have to say that the highlight for me was the fabulous breakfast every morning. If the weather is nice you can have it in a pretty little courtyard garden at the back of the hotel. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel although, of course, quality like this has to be paid for.

A nice enough hotel, but very overpriced in my opinion. The room was basic. I expected it to be more luxurious considering the price we were charged. Breakfast was good, however we were only offered a hot breakfast during one of the mornings that we were there. Strange! Wouldn’t return based on the fact that I felt it was not value for money.

We will be coming from Milan by train. How do we get to the hotel?
Answer from NillaFrosio
From the train station it is a 15/20 minute walk to the hotel. It is a straight walk, not up-hill. We could send you a map with walking instructions, so please let us have your email address. If you do not want to walk you can take a taxi, 5 minutes, € 15.00. Best regards. Uta Wilmer
