The room was quite small, but with a special comfortable atmosphere created by some quaint details. The bathroom was also small but very clean and modern. The breakfast was very good (even good bread - considering it's Italy) Good and quiet location in the old town. And last but not least very friendly staff (probably a family managed hotel).
We were in Cividale for a party of all things and stayed here for 4 nights. We had a good sized room on the second floor with a nice view (and there was a mini-fridge which was convenient). I think we had room #5. Our niece was in a single room on the 3rd floor which was very small. Breakfasts were adequate, although being a vegetarian and wanting some protein, I found I was craving eggs (hard-boiled would've been great). Enzo made the best cappuccinos we had in any hotel in Italy - the real deal. I will voice the same complaint I saw in another review... I had an Italian friend make our reservation as I could never get anyone on the phone that spoke English nor would they respond to an email. I wasn't sure when we showed up if we would actually have a room or not (a few days before the trip I emailed to confirm and never heard anything). But it was comfortable here, and of course right in the middle of town which was great. If you want luxury, go up the hill to the Castello, but as little time as we spent in the room, the price was right at Locanda al Pomo D'oro.…
The place more than a Hotel is a guest house with a restaurant downstairs. We had really really cold room. She turned on the heater when we arrived in the room! The room was freezing and it didn't get warmer till night and we had to sleep with 3 wool blanket and we even skipped the shower because of the cold temperature in the room! When you know you have guest for the night please turn in the heater earlier. And the furniture were really old and really really small TV far from the bed. I gave 3 point to this place just because of the location and breakfast! They serve really great and high quality Speck with homemade cakes.
Cividale del Friuli is a very well preserved medieval town in Friuli region of Italy and Locanda al Pomo d'oro is the perfect place to rest, savor and enjoy your visit. Their rooms are just the right size and the view of the town from our hotel window was breathtaking. The meal we enjoyed in the hotel's patio restaurant was outstanding, from start to finish. Free breakfast is heavy on sweet cakes and fruit, but the cook will scramble some eggs if you ask. No elevator so if you have problems with stairs ask for a ground floor room if available.
This hotel is located in the town of Cividale del Fruili, the address shown in TA is misleading. The hotel is comfortable & clean, in a quiet location, but a little basic. We had a room on the second floor, it was very small, & only had a half window so fresh air was limited. I recommend look for a room with full windows, ideally corner room with windows on 2 sides. Staff were very friendly, English language was limited. Breakfast was ok.
