Savoia Excelsior Palace is a hotel of timeless charm that immediately evokes all the Mitteleuropean's splendor. It is not a coincidence that, when it opened in 1911, it was acclaimed as “the most important and luxurious hotel in the Austro-Hungarian Empire”. The hotel remains an emblem of the majesty, sophistication and peerless style that distinguished the first grand hotels at the end of the 19th century. A towering presence on the historic seafront just off the city center, with an impressive white façade gazing over the endless view of the Gulf of Trieste, Savoia Excelsior Palace makes an unforgettable first impression. But inside is where the magic really begins. The 144 rooms and suites have been recently restyled with a blend of classic elegance and contemporary details. Many offer breathtaking views of the beautiful panorama of the Gulf of Trieste, extending almost as far as the historic Miramare Castle. The Savoy Restaurant by Eataly offers a gourmet experience with creative cuisine and traditional local delicacies, accompanied not only by the finest wine labels but also by superlative seafront views. Nine bright, elegant meeting rooms accommodating up to 320 guests are available to host both private gatherings and business events; our Event Manager is at your service. From the Concierge to the 24-hour room service, from the Wi-Fi to the tranquil library, all the hotel’s amenities are selected and personalized to offer you an exceptional stay in unparalleled comfort.

Very large grand hotel right on the water front. We booked a deluxe room with sea view and balcony. Lovely room, comfortable and very spacious. Car parking is convenient as there is always space right in front of the hotel to leave the car for valet parking. Staff all friendly and helpful. View from our 5th floor was excellent but not so good when a cruise liner is docked. Once docked they stay for a day or so, and one can see the pollution. Breakfast is the full range but a bit perfunctory, for example there were some fruit but no prepared fruit salad( Macedonia). Freshly prepared eggs, eg omelette, are available but one has to pay extra.

When you arrive to the building it is impressive and amazing location. When you get in the building it is very grandiose as well. However after I have been greeted by a seriously arrogant receptionist my excitement disappeared rather quickly. The room also has been rather underwhelming. Once probably it was great but not now. Very old, overworn stained carpets, stained curtains, marks all over in the bathroom where the shower gel was pretty much empty on arrival, and after never has been replenished for my few days stay. Very limited socket availability what in these technically advanced times is not a great thing. Breakfast OK, nothing to write home about. Will not rush back by any means

We had read Jan Morris' book on Trieste so were delighted to discover that this hotel is still going strong, though maybe telling your friends you have been walking in Mussolini's footsteps is not a good idea. It is right on the seafront and our room and the restaurant had sea views across to Miremare castle. Our room was spacious and elegant, with modern facilities and comfortable beds.Buffet breakfast excellent, staff helpful. If you have a yen to visit Vienna on sea , then this hotel is THE place to do it from. Through out Italy we were asked to produce our covid vaccination certificate ( they call it a green pass) AND to wear an FFP2 mask, ie not just any old mask , AND to cover the nose.

I spent three nights in the Savoia Excelsior Palace for a solo trip to Trieste because I wanted to treat myself. The hotel was incredibly attentive, helping me set up a car rental in advance, and offering a breakfast box to take in my room before my early departure. The breakfast was very good with many choices. I also had dinner in the hotel restaurant and found it to be good, though not exceptional. Definitely worth it with the 20 euro voucher they gave me, though. The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. I enjoyed having the balcony with a view of the gulf. Everything was well designed throughout the hotel, giving it a very elegant feel.

We decided to visit Trieste for New Years. We booked a new years eve celebration dinner at this hotel as a treat. We were surprised and disappointed that the dinner ended before midnight. The staff had cleared the tables and taken away the drinks table by 11.30pm. We had paid for a wine pairing and the last drink was given to us at 11.15. Some of the staff had their coats on and were leaving before midnight. We waited in the hope that something would be done for midnight however it was clear that the evening had ended and our bill was bought to us at 11.50pm,by which time most of the other guests had already left. The hotel told us that a few guests did stay who may have been staying in the hotel but there was no celebratory atmosphere or welcome. When we complained to the hotel we were offered the opportunity to return for a tasting dinner which would have resolved the issue satisfactorily if we lived in or near Trieste. When we explained that this was of no use to us the hotel failed to reply. We were staying at another hotel close by who told us that the dinner there ended at about 12.45pm with drinks to welcome in the new year. This was an expensive and disappointing evening

We only spent one night in Trieste. Our cruise was originally scheduled to depart from Venice but that was changed to Trieste so we spent a few days in Venice, then took the train to Trieste. We spent the afternoon at Castle Miramare, easily accessible by bus. It was delightful. The hotel was perfect. We were surprised to find that the ships dock directly across the street from the hotel. When we arrived a Regent ship was there, they left and our Azamara ship arrived. How convenient! Our hotel room was large and elegant. It was not recently decorated, but it was all quite nice and well chosen as you can see in the photos. The lobby area was also quite large and offered several seating/reading areas. Our bed was very comfortable. Staff was very accomodating. Our balcony did not have chairs on it so they brought some up right away. We didn't select the breakfast option as we were getting on our ship shortly after noon. We think this hotel was an excellent value and suited our needs perfectly as we were looking for something with Old World charm and nice sized rooms. They were following Covid protocols which we very much appreciated.

I enjoyed a four night stay in a standard "classic" room. The check-in was friendly and efficient, the room was spotless, and the bed comfortable. The hotel exudes Old World elegance and has retained its charm amongst all of the modern amenities expected of a five star hotel. The breakfast was high quality, and the bar provided good service. The daily room cleaning was appreciated, especially since so many hotels have done away with it following the pandemic.

This is a great hotel. It is beautiful, comfortable and centrally located. We enjoyed our comfortable beds and cozy bathrobes. They only offer valet parking, so we found free street parking about 10 minutes from the property. We had drinks in the lobby bar, and we thought the prices were fair.

This is a grand, old-style building situated right on the harbour in Trieste. The interior is very luxurious and perfectly clean. Probably more of an upmarket business traveller/conference feel to it rather than touristy or romantic (we were staying here on honeymoon). Our room was lovely; a huge, comfortable bed with a balcony overlooking the sea. We didn't eat in the restaurant apart from breakfast on our first day, but the bar was great - excellent service and great choice. Probably expensive for Trieste but as expected for anyone coming from Ireland! The only downside was some unpleasantness on our last morning when we tried ordering some gluten free breakfast items to the room. It turned out that the menus in the rooms were incorrect, but the staff were not at all apologetic and indeed quite rude in their dealings with us about it. They did take the charge off our bill, which was appreciated, but it still leaves us with an unfortunate memory from an otherwise pleasant stay.

Arrival at the hotel was easy, it is located sea-side, on the main avenue. You can park your car for unloading outside. After check-in they bring your car to a central parking lot; for getting it back they ask for announcing departure one hour before- that works well. The hotel is a huge structure, renovated. Our room 267 was pleasant. Spacious, good lights everywhere. Lots of storage room. Bed and mattress good. Quiet, window leading to a small street. Bathroom is spacious again and well lit- there is a bathtub with built-in shower. Safe is easy to handle, everything is very practical. Clean. Good housekeeping, but no turn-down service. For seating during the day, there was a very small bench at the wall, stylish, but not good for seating, more for decoration. Well, Trieste has many excellent Cafes- so not too important. What was really excellent: the restaurant recommendations. Signora Sabrina at reception mentioned 3 restaurants not far away: all were outstanding, thank you, Sabrina.
