This family hotel was not what I expected. The photos on Tripadvisor look much nicer than it is in reality; I can only assume these photos were from the good old days. Then again, with some effort and much better attention to their guests, they can make it good (again). My disappointment started at the reception, which was pitch dark and empty, so turned out the rest of the hotel making it spooky. Finally, when one turned up, not speaking English and even worse, not listening to me in any language, resulting in appointing me the wrong room type by which my annoyance increased. There was also no information given at all about the facilities of the hotel, such as their wellness area. So we explored it ourselves but ended up again in dark spooky area, used towels and disinfection barrel in the corner, where I'm convinced with simple action, they make this wellness area attractive. The room walls are very thin; we heard our neighbors discussing and left alone dog barking. The breakfast, although a buffet, was very basic. The restaurant had no English menu, neither the staff spoke any English, but the food was very good. To end up with a positive note, the next morning the manager (son (in law)?), who does speak well English, excused him for the wrong room and corrected the price without discussion. I would wish he had welcome us which might gave me a much more positive view about this hotel.

So I went for one night to this "hotel" and the whole journey didn't started as I accepted. We went inside and the welcoming was not very gently or how would I say it... We got the keys to our room and we had to find out the rest. The room is exactly the same as in the pictures so I can't say anything about that but, the first impression was a really dark room (with a dusty smell) so not really what I was hoping for. Later that evening we went go eating in the restaurant (which is from the hotel) the menu was completely in Italian so I didn't understand it. So that was also a challenge to get something you might like. I've got spaghetti carbonara, and honestly it was not the best I've had but that's everyone's taste, very subjective. Afther an okay night (with good airconditioning) we went for breakfast. This was a little of a disappointment. There wasn't (in my opinion) nothing special or something local. Also there wasn't any choices of bread etc... There was only slices of French bread. Not really my cup of tea. So to memorize everything together. It wasn't terrible, there were some really nice employees, and they did the best they could also the room is exactly the same as the photo's. But it wasn't something that I was looking for so my stay wasn't the best I had. If there are any questions about how I experience my stay, I would like to hear them!

We booked the hotel not quite knowing what to expect. We arrived early in the evening to find a well maintained older family run hotel. The greetings were perfect, the room were small but well kept and furnished. There is a bar and pizzeria downstairs which makes the best pizza we have had in Italy. To our delight and surprise there was a swimming pool, whirlpool, wet sauna and dry sauna in the basement. In the morning we had a continental breakfast in the attached restaurant. It was served by the owner of the hotel and was very good. We will definitely come back if we are in this area

I am 51 years old, and this is the worse hotel I have ever visited. I was there in January, and there was no heating, and the water in the shower was cold. Avoid by any costs, even if you have to drive one hour more, it is worth it. Go there only if you are a desperate.

We stayed at this hotel for a total of 9 nights (6+3) last July. I am actually from Trieste, but since I have been living abroad for many years I don't have an accomodation in Trieste which would suit a family of three, so we needed a hotel as a base. The hotel is very conveniently located about 12 km from the city centre and the drive is very pleasant with no traffic at all. The hotel is in a quiet surrounding, just a few meters from the old border with Slovenia. There is parking space and a big, well kept garden which is very enjoyable for kids. In the summer time the air is much cooler than downtown, but, by the same token, in winter time it must be much colder and the bora blows inexorably in that area. They have two separate adjacent buildings, the old one with the old restaurant and a new one with a pizzeria. The new one has also a wellness centre which was being completed when we were there and we did not get to use it. We got 2 rooms in the new building. The rooms were reasonably spacious for European standards, well decorated, with new fixtures and both with balcony. No rooms have aircon (even in the new building) so when it gets very hot during the day it can become stuffy, although the temperature invariably drops at night. The problem is that it is not advisable to keep the windows open because those who are sensitive to noise would be bothered both by the traffic of the main road nearby and by the noise of the pizzeria downstairs which stays open until late and in summer time is quite popular. Also, since we stayed for several days, we were unlucky enough to be trying to sleep during the pizzeria's rest day in which they organized a birthday party for one of the staff and we had to put up with loud music and noise until quite late at night. But normally the noise is not a serious problem and keeping the windows closed would insulate you completely as they have double glazing. Cleanliness was ok, although overall it was done a bit in a hurry (the carpet did not seem to have undergone a thorough cleaning for some time) and if you happened to be in the room when the cleaner was around (not more than 2 hours per day), you would miss your daily cleaning. The rooms were comfortable, although our sink was slightly clogged and there was no shelf whatsoever in the shower cabin for the soap, so we had to either walk into the shower cabin with soap in our palms or put the soap container on the floor or on the top of the cabin (in which case it would invariably fall). These are little things, but it would help if they could be improved. Internet connection was free, but the signal in the room was very erratic. The solution is to simply bring your laptop in the hall downstairs were you can comfortably browse and enjoy for free a powerful and fast connection. The double bed (as very often in Europe) consists actually of two mattresses put together and you inevitably suffer from the usual 'hole in the middle' syndrome. The mattresses were also a bit too hard and a bit too small. Every room has a safety box. We got half board accomodation and fully enjoyed the food. Very good pizzas are on offer in the pizzeria also for lunch (for some reason in Italy pizzas are normally served only for dinner) but as usual in Italy you can't count on having lunch after 2 pm. For the half board the owner normally cooks simple but tasty and well prepared dishes every day (we had to rely more on the pizzeria on a couple of days because the owner was actually on leave on our first few days of our stay). If you choose a la carte you have more choice and the dishes are equally good and prices are reasonable. Breakfast was also good for the level of the hotel. The owners and the staff are all very friendly , ready to help and to give a little personal touch to your stay. Overall, despite some little things which could be improved, we had a pleasant stay and we decided that the location, the food and the cost were good enough to compensate for the few quirks, so much so that we decided to come back for our last three nights in Europe before flying back to Asia.
