we did like this place, although when we stayed there in Trieste , our apartment had just been restored and made available to guests, so it was a bit anonymous and empty...But the lovely ancient building with fantastic staircase and unusual glass windows was perfect for us. It was very big and warm, comfortable and very clean. I would recommend it to friends as the location of the flat just in Piazza Cavana makes it very good for staying in the centre and living the atmosphere of this unusual town.

And that's about all I can say for this place. We were a family of 4 adults and were all at first amused, then frustrated by this most tacky of places. There was a round hole in the window with a piece of wood over it, four little cots which turned out to be quite comfy to our surprise, the kitchen was ill equipped for even making tea or coffee let alone breakfast. The best part of the place was Anastasia and her counter part in the office (I regret I have forgotten her name and apologize for that). They were terrific, even when the only toilet plugged up early on Sunday morning and Anastasia tried valiently (and unsuccessfully) to unplug it before it spilled over! The locale is fantastic with everything you could want nearby. We are happy hostel dwellers and not terribly fussy but this place really hit a low point.…

I have spent a weekend in Trieste with some friends. The city and its citizens are very nice. The accomodation chosen was perfect, as we were in an big and modern apartment located just in the city center. Nice atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.

I first stayed at Residence Sara while recording in Trieste back in 2008. Me and my fellow musicians have stayed in different apartemens, and they were all clean, spacious, well equipped. The stuff have been very friendly and helpful, and after that first experience I have been using different structures from the budget bed and breakfast to the finest rooms and apartements for friends and collegues going to Trieste both for leisure and work. The Residence Sara has always provided a perfect solution for different needs, and a great price/quality ratio. In the area there are not only plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, but also some architectonic treasures, such as the famous Piazza Unità, the Arco di Riccardo -a Roman Arch from 33BC-, a Roman amphiteather, the 11th century Cathedral. I defenetely reccomend the place expecially to those who love art, architecture and a romantic-bohemian touch.…

Having booked many months earlier a nine-day stay at an entirely different establishment (the Residence San Marco) we were surprised when we got off the airport bus to be met by a young couple who informed us that because of a structural collapse, we had been switched to an alternate accommodation. The couple then drove us to the Hotel Barbacan, via del Capitelli 3, which serves as headquarters for the Residence Sara. From the office a delightful young lady named Anastasia led us on a five-minute walk through the pedestrianized heart of the old city to our new abode. Our apartment turned out to be situated not in the Residence Sara proper, but in a building nearby, at Piazzo Cornelia Romano 1. It was a wonderfully convenient location, with a good pizza place around the corner and a grocery store, bakery, and all sorts of shops just a little farther along. So far as we could tell, our apartment on the first floor was the only tourist accommodation in the building. There was much to like about the apartment. It was very spacious, with a large lounge and two bedrooms, painted white and with high ceilings and enormous windows throughout. The kitchen, bathroom, and extra half-bath were recently renovated and in pristine condition. The bathroom was equipped with wash basin, toilet, bidet, and the tallest heated towel-drying rack I have ever seen. Best of all was the glass-enclosed shower, with good pressure and choice of hand-held or overhead rainshower. The kitchen was well equipped with pans and dishes but had no linens, no electric coffee maker, and no kettle. There was a dishwasher but no microwave. The lounge was furnished with a long white sofa and a round white table and four chairs. The only color was provided by some framed prints and by full-length beige curtains at the windows. The big screen TV got scores of channels, one French and the rest Italian, no English. The apartment had no internet access, but a choice of wifi or use of a house computer was freely available back at the office. There were some negatives. Our first night we were kept awake until nearly midnight by a rock band practicing the same song over and over. Nothing that bad occurred later on, but we were bothered at some point every evening by noisy neighbors. When we arrived, the kitchen and bathroom surfaces were spotless, but the entire apartment was in dire need of a thorough vacuuming. Even after I had gone over the whole place with a broom and dustpan, I still spent all week picking up dust bunnies. There was an ample supply of blankets and comforters, but they too were dusty. We had been told that cleaners would come in every two or three days, but that never happened. Just once a young man dropped off a change of sheets and towels, but that was it. To be fair, if we had complained about these matters it is likely that the management would have responded. When, for example, we did tell Anastasia that a promised washing machine was not present, she saw to it that one was installed two days later. (That she did not know about the missing machine makes me suspect that this apartment has perhaps been acquired only recently.) All of the staff people back at the office were friendly and cooperative. I am tempted to bump my rating up a notch just because of the delightful Anastasia, who not only provided every assistance but also cheerfully shared her opinions about Italian politics and her boyfriends past and present. Would I stay here again? Maybe. It was not perfect, but it was a quintessential Italian experience.…

Location is excellent, walking district in the old city center. Plenty of bakeries, caffes, restaurants, supermarkets, shopping centers in the area. Apartments are comfortable and tidy. Bathroom is fully functional. Most importantly, personnel (staff) is very hospitable, flexible, and pleasant. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody travelling to Trieste for whatever cause. Will come back definitely.

The staff was so incredibly nice and helpful. The flat was perfect and spacious, and for those braving the heat of an Italian summer, the air-con was a wonderful reprieve. Excellent location with many restaurants and sights nearby. Very good price. Thank you again for a wonderful time!

We had a reservation in Residence Sara, and because of a mistake that they made, force us to pass the night in the Giulio's Pension, regented by a great guy called Mauro, but of a very bad quality. We paid for a good loooking place to sleep aand we found ourselves with a two small twin beds in a shared bathroom, for 66 Euros!! I argue with Mauro and finally it was 55 but anyway, not what we reserved, and without any information of the changes, going up and down with the luggage, I hope the other's experience would be better than ours, because it was owful!

A very nice location, a clean and airy room, helpful reception staff and a reasonable price. Good? Absolutely, and a great alternative to a standard hotel. Trieste is an amazing, fascinating town apparently choosing tourism as its battleground for survival, and this residence will surely help Trieste win, and tourists enjoy it. Let's now take my rosy-tinted glasses off, those I developed in dozens years as a tourist in Italy: 1. reception staff was busy for hours registering and welcoming guests, unavailable to provide information about the wi-fi connection they said was available in the lobby. And who knows? Maybe there is one after all. 2. price is good for North-Eastern Italy, still quite higher than in very comparable locations in Slovenia and Croatia - very few dozen miles away. 3. The shower hand-held adjustable support is broken. And fixed - in a fixed position, farewell adjustability - with adhesive tape. And staff knows, and reports two have broken already. The very natural implication is many of the rooms will end up with tape-fixed shower hand-helds as they will break, likely soon, and we shall live with it ... welcome to Italian hosting culture, I guess. In the end: yes, come visit Trieste, and if you do, do come to Residence Sara. Expect standard Italian tourist level of service, and you may be in for a positive surprise.…
