We cannot speak highly enough about this little gem of a hotel perfectly situated in the beautiful and friendly city of Modena. We stayed 8 nights during an international dog competition we were participating in. The staff were fantastic, very helpful and understanding with regard to both ourselves and our animals. The room we had was also excellent, and the breakfast provided very nice. Highly recommended.
The Estense is an excellent choice when visiting Modena. It has an old-world elegance and charm, and wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. We spent one night there driving south from northern Italy to Rome at the end of August, and for 120 euros had a large double room, generous bath and a rich and varied breakfast. Could not have asked for more. I was amazed at the variety of bathroom toiletries (who gives you toothbrushes, sewing kits and shoecleaners anymore?). We were driving, so the parking lot behind the hotel was a deal-breaker for us. From there we visited the two Ferrari Museums the next day, and had a fabulous dinner at nearby Al Cenacolo. I enthusiastically recommend Hotel Estense and hope to return!.
Parking was convenient with this hotel; while address is Viale Berengario 11, enter lot in courtyard behind hotel off of via Bono da Nonantola. If their private lot is full, they'll provide a pass to park in any blue (paid parking spot) spot on streets around hotel. (There were generally always spots on Nonantola except when outdoor market was going on in park behind hotel (Friday & Saturday mornings?). Within easy walking distance of the historic city center (Centro Storico) with many sites, churches, cafes, restaurants & gelaterias. Our room was large, had a nice size bathroom and air conditioning. They had a wide variety of food for breakfast. We used this spot for day-tripping throughout the area with our car. If coming back, we would stay here again, thanks for a nice visit!…
The things we liked best about Hotel Estense was its parking lot behind the hotel, its breakfast buffet (complete with fresh-squeezed orange juice), and its location. It's just on the outskirts of the historic center and an easy walk to anything you'd want to see, even the Ferrari museum. It's adjacent to a university campus so there are lots of little cafes down the street which are good for lunch and coffee. While the bedroom was fairly roomy, clean and comfortable, the bathroom and shower were uncomfortably small, and we're not large people!
Nice rooms in an Italian style. A family run hotel without the corporate chain vibe. Welcoming and friendly staff in a good central location. Only a few minutes walk from good local restaurants in the city. Decent Italian breakfast options. Would stay again.
