Just back from Rome and visited this astonishing papal major basilica. It is also referred to as Our Lady of the Snow. As the name suggests the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The art work and decor is amazing and which I personally thought surpassed St Pete's Basilicas art. The basilica is within walking distance from the Stazione...

This, along with San Giovanni in Laterano, Saint Peter's, and Saint Paul's Outside the Walls, is one of the four papal basilicas, the top four churches in Catholicism (all in Rome). It's gorgeously ornate, but difficult to navigate in some respects, and we weren't allowed in the chapel with the famous Madonna icon. We searched in vain for Bernini's tomb,...

The room itself was gorgeous as we upgraded to a suite. the rest of the building was underconstruction and the lift didn't go to all levels. when arrived at 930pm the man said he had been waiting for us all day, when we booked we...

    Staying in Esquilino

    Neighbourhood Profile
    Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
